..?
its slightly debatable. the bulk(coco) provides water and possible nutes but its overkill anyway because we use high spawn ratios.
so the point is mute. especially growing with shoeboxes. bags and bottle are a completely different story. however, it should be debated in mushcult general discussion or by making another thread.
the function and application of substrates is not the topic here. but i would like to see some shoeboxes done with poop..

I have had opposite results. I get fast colonization with it, and it seems to have plenty of water for me. Worst case scenario is I bottom water.

It was 3 month old spawn. I have issues with coir contaminating easily. SO I went straight vermiculite to hopefully reduce chances of it failing due to contamination.

sorry to bumb an other thread but this seems to be a good fit for my questions.
This is my 3rd attempt at doing unmodified tubs using the info on this thread. The below photos were taken 15-16days after spawning 1:4 rye/PCVG and just before popping the lids on of the fully colonized tubs (snapping the handles down then dropping the lid on tops so there is small air gap)
I am hoping to see the LGT start pinning soon after adding more FAE into my GH. The AA+ tub is pinning and should fruit over the next few days and seems to be a bit more tolerant of my small room.

What do you guys think about my surface conditions and how things are looking. Did I open them up a little too soon and should have waited for more pins/knots to form?
Had a few other trays inside a larger unmodified tub but I over misted a few times and to be honest most of the horror looks like user error.... at least I got some thing to clone Any chance saving these or best to just rack this one up to learning and scrap it and try again?

usually unmodified tubs do not go in GH. i dont do shoeboxes in GH either. just out on the shelf.
but all that looks decent. hopefully the GH does it thing but large trays can just be stand alones.(no GH needed)

I got some MexiCube and GT colonizing right now and I planned to spawn them to 12 shoeboxes. I was planning to use a sub with poo.

This is one of shoeboxes that was severely neglected when I had an abscessed tooth. I'm glad it producing something though. Shoeboxes rule!

Fuck yeah! I have 2 plates of PE7. Gonna get some jars going in a few days. Can't wait to try those. Then I have 2 plates of Ajax I'll be putting on grain, and a plate of GT when I wake up for work in 4 hours. Waiting on the PC to finish up with some pastys, syringes of sterile water, and some home made swabs. Bit too be shoebox city before I know it!
