I am noticing that since I've left the lid unlatched like you mentioned the mycelium is spreading across the surface, I'm taking that as a good sign I guess.
nice boxes btw.

It is a good sign... I typically don't see surface moisture until a day or two after full colonization, when the mycelium becomes semi-impermeable and holds beads of dew on the surface... I think A lot of noobs get wrapped up misting obsessively, over-saturating the substrate, preventing evaporation, which is a pinning trigger... let the surface fully colonize, allow surface moisture to develop, allow evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate... only mist to return surface moisture, not to rehydrate the substrate, which can be done with a short dunk or heavy misting after harvest and between flushes

Couple questions:
I bottom watered today for an hour or two then poured it out. How long do you guys usually leave it when you do this?
Having lots of side pin problems. There's 2 massive mushrooms on the side growing down into the corner and actually bending the substrate in an unsatisfactory way. How do you go about harvesting these? Float the substrate?
Anyway here's the box as of now:

I've just read that it's bad surface conditions that do that for the most part. Not really sure on how people go about fixing it but I would assume for it all to be extremely level and the spawn to have been mixed really well.
Anyway, just float the sub. You could take it our and set it on newspaper or something and trim it down.
You look like you have nice fruit on the surface. I've seen people get a lot worse side pins lol.
Also, a 2 hour dunk should be plenty.

Surface has a decent pinset so you're not far off on conditions... try tamping the edges a bit at spawn: the tighter substrate seems less prone to shrinking early, which creates the gap between the sub and the tub... this creates a microclimate ideal for pins, so you'll get some side pins unless surface moisture/ evaporation (conditions) are optimal... tamping seems to make it easier, but it's still upto you to learn to read the surface... be sure to leave the lid snapped until your pinset develops and begins to grow... then unsnap until they reach the lid and need dubtubbed

Thanks man
I just read about the tamping a couple weeks ago, so I have a bunch colonizing right now, the first few not tamped, and the next batch tamped. So should be a nice little side by side comparison.

These are the gaps I get with a dub tub and a lid sitting on the latches:

Does this look OK for FAE purposes?

You win the race BB your aa+ already printing!! I don't even want to post mine cause they still small AF, growing so slow, I think I may have stunted them due to temp and humidity changes when I raised the heat, and bottom watered them but idk.

For sure, there doesn't need to be much of a gap to get enough air for them.

Made 4 gram tea of mazapatec drank it and the shrooms it was made with then ate another 2.5 grams good visuals and colors after 30 mins but the mushrooms told me to eat more so I ate a handful not weighed and then I ate another 5 grams. It was an amazing experience.
Going to weight the treasure coast box dry weight today and the other mazapatec post later

I'm getting an annoying amount of mould outbreaks, usually after the first flush. I'm going to try a few boxes with a few holes just above casing level with micro tape on them. I'm hoping this will just increase the fae enough to deter these outbreaks a bit. Anyone tried this adaptation?

With shoeboxes? Idk. If ur getting mold like that there's some other reason besides fae. Likely ur not prepping ur grain right or ur innoculant wasn't clean.
