that sounds more like an over capacity substrate. did you add more water to compensate for your perceived dryness?

I was really careful to get field capacity right and keep the sub light and fluffy when the spawn was mixed in, and I didn't crack the boxes for two weeks. Last night they felt dry and I gave them a light misting.

I thought the same thing as Mush: just experienced the same results a couple weeks ago and sounds indicative to overcapacity substrate. You may get tons of knots and pins but the caps will open before they get a 1/4 inch high and even upside down mushrooms, rose combs galore and not even a 1/4 of expected yield. I know I will never make that mistake again.

Has anyone used the Slurry method directly to substrate in shoeboxes? I would assume 1 pf jar could do at least 5 shoeboxes in a couple days

I'm confused what you mean. Making it a slurry would be an extra step instead of just breaking up the cakes.
Or are you saying put BRF substrate into shoeboxes and pour Slurry? No that'd be bad.

Reuse, just use soap and water with a plastic scrubbie. If they're pp5 you can use a dishwasher.

Was that just slurry>Bulk(CVG)? That sounds feasible.
It's the 1 jar> 5 shoeboxes part that makes me think he's saying throw uncolonizing brf into shoeboxes then pour slurry into that. I'd think sterilizing substrate then throwing it into a shoebox would contam out before getting colonized by the slurry.

Nope, a little nutrition goes a long way. You can do the math based on the weight of the flour used.

I think we're having to different conversations. I was responding to jhova, responding to me/keifnuggs.
Or I'm I just not understanding how that fits into the slurry into shoeboxes thing?
e/ Found eatyou's from 3 years ago. Looks like it's slurry into bulk. Nothing nutritious. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21242497#21242497

I'm curious now as well. I just cant see how ONE brf cake can have enough nutrition to successfully colonize 5 shoeboxes.

Yeah I'm having a hard time with that too...if it was possible I would think the colonization would take forever!

Imo the other 10% either germinated unseen spores that were deposited onto the flesh and later germinated once rehydrated.. or they are full of shit.
But caps is good people so I'm
Lol, I just stuck the bottom inch and a half or so of a stipe in tap water (in the fridge) for a couple hours (maybe 3?) And took sample as usual... I used a small sample, and ran the excess moisture off to one side, taking my initial transfer from the opposite side of growth... t2 was clean

Its mind blowing that fungus can die, and ve revived several months after completely drying. Shouldnt it be completely dead by the n? All the living cells that existed would be dehydrated.

Makes me wonder just how far can we go back and revive them? Nearly 13+yr old ???cube.Dried and jarred with a desiccant, stored in a box in the closet.

I may have to get in on this with you.
