Just using a coir top layer at spawn. So far it's worked well for pretty much any cube I've tried. PE did still give me blobs, but for the most part decent fruit.
Thanks btw!

Quick update: Harvested the box on the right for tonight. I'll get the other tomorrow after work. These APE were like popcorn.Small bite size nuggets.

With pretty much all of the shoeboxes I’ve made, I always get knots all over the sides. Just the very beggining stage, pinhead size knots. But they never mature at all, and I always get great pinsets and great yield, with barely any side pins until I get to around flush 3. For an example you can look at my avatar picture. That tub had plenty of very small knots all over the sides.
Can't find your previous post. You're talking about poor performance on flush3...?
If it's 1qt spawn I would think it's about spent by then
I usually judge by weight the sun produced. Total if i get 2oz from 1qt I call it a day and move on, replace it

Enkidu - Yea there was no previous post, Caps Mcgee has the right idea tho. During flush 1 i always get extremely tiny knots that form all over the sides, and that stay there for the remainder of the tubs life. However, they never end up maturing at all, and i still end up with only surface fruits and a great pinset. I was wondering if its normal for these side knots to form and just never mature.
Its not causing me any major issues or anything. Just thought it was a bit weird and am wondering if its normal.

It happens to me too sometimes flyhigh. Just keep your surface conditions up and they will stall out and the growth will stay on the surface.

Last time I rehydrated with straight from the tap and got trich over 90% of the surface withing 4 days so I thought I'd be more cautious this time... And yet I went to check this morning and a patch of trich formed right in the middle of this box. I sterilized a spoon and scooped it out but no further signs of pinning. Guess I'll add more water and just wait for the trich to take hold

Trich was present before you rehydrated. You spawn in open air so anything thereafter there's no need to be sterile. You've already given the opportunity for contamination. You're relying on your clean, strong spawn to keep a hold on your tub.

Awesome thanks man. Atleast i know its not just me lol. And yea thats what seems to happen usually. They never get passed the size of a pinhead, until maybe the third flush some will mature sometimes. Doesnt seem to being hurting anything i dont think

Come to find a nice surprise, a shoebox I made with 2qts of bacterial spawn is giving me a decent first flush. I'll post a wet weight after I harvest.

Noticed the first pins on my LGT and Redboy boxes. I'll take some pictures of them once they're a little more developed

My total wet weight came out to 540g. I'll post the dry weight when they get done. These were small but dense and there was a pile of them.

Didn’t really go how I wanted it but I’ll take it for the first flush on my first grow. Harvesting tonight after work!
Since this started as a shoebox should I put it back in the box after I soak or back into the FC?

Thanks,
BB
