Well..... The fallen brother:

The other 2 are ready to have their tops popped.(lids unlatched, not flipped) It looks like the sub is already pulling from the side,so I'm gonna bottom water and let them do their thing.
 Plenty of pics to come.

@mushroomnate
My tubs started pulling away from the sides as well. These are my first attempts. When that happens I need to bottom water? If so do you just mist down the sides of the box?
Thanks in advance,
BB

I bottom water by pouring about 1/4 cup of water down the side of the tub,if it hasn't soaked it all up by the next day, then pour the excess out.(usually always soaks it all up) I noticed your boxes look like they were cased? Also looks a little wet on top.

I appreciate it!
I didn’t start out with casings but they stalled out on me so I added a layer to see if it would help.
Box #2 stalled out first. It pulled away from the sides and started producing side pins. In hindsight I should’ve mixed it with verm, but the peat I used as a casing on box #2 keeps drying up on top and there is water on the bottom. The pic was taken just after misting but I agree they are wet. I had increased the FAE on Box #2 trying to get the bottom water out and it’s starting to look better than when I took those pics. Do I just hold the sub and tilt the box to get the water out?
Box #1 was looking good then pulled away from the sides as well and stalled. I made the casing from peat, wheat grain, verm, perlite and water. It’s taken off overnight but have a lot of side pins. Will side pins impact the yield on the grow?
Great to know about bottom watering. I’ll be trying it going forward.
Thanks!

You have a lot going on there. Keeping it as simple as possible will help. Also find a tek and stick to it. As for now,I'd say just let them be and see what they do on their own. Sounds like you've been misting too much,if you already had water on the bottom of #2. Also, you added wheat grain to your casing mix? That could cause contamination. Like I said, especially for your first time, keep it simple. I mix my spawn with strait coir, and top layer(case) it with the same coir. As far as the side pins,it happens. They will be part of your total yield.

Yeah, definitely took on too much at one time, lol.
I should have started with one species until I got the hang of it. Going to slow down after this round is done. Currently have 2 Pans (Cyan Jamaica, Cam Sandose), Ps. Cyanescens, Ps. Caerulescens and 3 species of Cubes in various stages. Bit off a little more than I can chew... The wheat grain was meant to go into the substrate for the Caerulescens, but got it mixed up. Really hope it doesn’t mess things up but another good piece of info for the future. I didn’t know it can cause contamination.
Ive been using CV substrate on my last few boxes and plan on sticking with it.

How long do you guys usually go before the second flush starts to pin? Got a rather underwhelming 14 grams off my oat/coir box. I soaked it with some boiled and cooled tap water, drained the excess and put it back into fruiting conditions but thats been a bit over a week now. There's a ton of aborts left from the last flush that are getting fuzzy with myc but no biters yet.

Oh damn. I though a lot of people tossed their contained tubs outside! Maybe I won’t eat them then. Does anyone else know anything about this?

I laughed so hard reading that for some reason.
Also green mold can be harmful if you already have issues with mild. My lungs are extremely sensitive to green mold because I grew up breathing black mold every day of my life. Pretty much gave me pneumonia minus the actual pneumonia infection. If I don't toss a tub going green I won't be able to walk for a day. So not every body has issues with green mold, only if you have been scarred by it.

As for eating cakes with a contam on them...are you sure you want to risk it? It might not do anything to you at all, or it might kill you. You can make a spore print from a cake that has contams...but I wouldn't eat anything from it!

trendal said: The myc could fight them off...but the risk isn't from eating contams, it from eating the toxins produced by contams. The myc absorbs the toxins very easily, spreading them through the cake. If you eat a mushroom that grew on a cake with contams in it, the mushroom could have some toxins in it - no matter how far apart the contams and mushroom were.
If they're on the same cake...its a risk to eat them.

Does this normally happen with you guys as well? Or am I just not providing the proper conditions?
With pretty much all of the shoeboxes I’ve made, I always get knots all over the sides. Just the very beggining stage, pinhead size knots. But they never mature at all, and I always get great pinsets and great yield, with barely any side pins until I get to around flush 3. For an example you can look at my avatar picture. That tub had plenty of very small knots all over the sides.
