Wait, what? Am I the only one seeing trich getting ready to go green and sporulate? YamDi, you should toss that sub. If there's already trich within 4 days of spawning, get that shit out of your grow area and get ready to toss it the fuck out.

I've seen matted mycelium favor the bright white spots, I assumed it's not trich bc it's only 4 days in, and noobs tend to overmist... I've had growth I could've sworn to be trich stay white... if his spawn was that bad (trich in 4 days) it would be ugly AF, and I'd hope OP wouldn't have wasted the time and resources But the thought crossed my mind before reading the details of his grow

Second look... probably was bad spawn... gotta get an idea of what clean spawn looks like: though I've a feeling that it didn't matter much and you'd've spawned whatever

I think i'm going to be sticking to shoe-boxes exclusively. Did my first mono, and it seems to be more of a pain in my ass keeping surface conditions compared to shoe-boxes. hell, my latest dub-tub is coming in awesome, and I haven't even had to touch the tubs

I though so as well, maybe i'll try a traditional mono with poly-filled holes. I tried unmodified, and it's drying out in the corners within a few hours. Not a problem if I was home, but I work full-time.

Close it up a bit... if it's drying, it's getting too much FAE, polyfil filled holes are not going to make this better, but exacerbate the issue

Im gonna just say straight out that contrary to popular opinion fruiting at spawn is not optimal in everyones environment. I also believe that unmodified flipped lids get MORE fae than traditional 6 hole micropore or polyfil styles. This isnt necessarily a bad thing. I think having a bit of patience for a good pinset before flipping the lid would solve your problems. In (spawned 4 days ago) 10 days ill have a mini mono ill document delayed or old school fruiting methodology wish me luck i dont get trich for my sacrilige.

I'm a fan of leaving the lid on until pinset as well. I feel like it helps to pin & grow more evenly. I don't flip the lids at spawn any more, but I wouldn't argue either method is superior, just a preference.

I also leave the lids on till I see pins, and then,I leave the lid on some more. I never flip lids, just pop(unlatch)them and let them grow. If they get to the lid,and I catch them in time,I'll dub. I have seen that making sure the bulk sub(coir)is field capacity has alot to do with keeping good moisture till first flush,in MY conditions.

IME as long as my spawn is clean and coir be properly hydrated, I have just a little maintenance involved with my shoeboxes as i do my monos. Close the lid ok n till pins pop then flip the lid. That's all I do and my canopies are perfectly fine as long as the lighting is ample.

I only prefer shoeboxes for two reasons; minimizes cross contamination, and they are stackable. With my shelves I can fit 15 shoeboxes where one mono would be.

Right, I have a couple of contaminated shoeboxes that are flushing decent anyway. I just move em out of the grow tent into the garage and get what I can as long as it's within reason.
