I've done KSSS, PE6, GT, APE, PESA and Huautla this year. All mini-fruits.
Then I'm like, I'm going to do I nice, easy 3g dose...then

It's so potent that on one trip I was laughing uncontrollably at the idea this would ever be legal. Like it was so weird!

maybe a casing experiment is in order? my shoeboxes are usually my reject jars so whatever they produce is a bonus.

Dude, you go back in the archives and there was some strong belief in casing...even cubes. Blue Helix did it...and he's back on the board. So I will ask him.
I cased the KSSS. Got some burly ones.

Nice KSSS! Way back I cased everything with 50/50 peat/verm and had decent full size results. These KSSS where cased back then.(But now I'm curious of what KS I really had )
Now I just top layer everything at spawn and have been very pleased with the results. That said I Do like some mini fruits. A dose of minis is always stronger than the same weight in big fruits, for me.

The shroom on my avatar pic was grown out a shoebox grow...first flush fruit. I usually get decent fruits from shoeboxes regardless...pretty typical I’d say

Looks good to me for first flush? What are you yielding per quart of spawn?

Looks like your problem is that you're growing canopies!

The sub can only do so much with so many mushies in a confined space all at once, but I think they're pretty aware of their surroundings and it looks like yours filled theirs in nicely.
Maybe try spawning some 1:1 ziplocks with like 1/2 cup spawn & 1/2 cup sub? I bet you'll get a few monsters like I've see with them. I had two in this batch grow a couple extra inches with a bottom watering right as they started to mature.

Oddly enough, my largest fruit have come from substrates that had become matted for whatever reason... either or, if i had to pick between a canopy of what I don't consider really to be "small fruit" or fewer larger fruit, id take canopies daily!

Anybody ever grow Red Boy? Mine seem to be opening up prematurely. I cased at spawn and the mycelium didn’t colonize the surface fully. Got four boxes that look like this.

What could have happened? Is it just genetics or something I did wrong?

Are they all from the same master? If so, I'd guess the genetics. IDK where Hamloaf is lately-probably growing walls on walls of tubs he can't really show anyone-but he's the one to ask about RB.

My Redboy was super quick, I got 4 flushes in the time I got 3 if other varieties.
Might just be a wet sub? Or maybe they didn’t like the casing at spawn. Is that a true casing or a pseudocasign?

It was just a small top layer. Yes they were all from the same master. Kinda bummed, but maybe I’ll have better luck next time. Still got a master of it in the fridge. May try without the top layer.

Curious, possible to have too much casing? (i don't mean like 3" but like 1" or more?) and what is the downside?

If it's too thick(and soppy) it doesn't get colonized into well and the pins don't set to penetrate up through the layer. You end up with a fairy ring.
