There is a hole on side of the box for air exchange, idk how efficient it is. What do you think? will it work?
Just curious, why not just get the shoeboxes that are used in this tek? they are less than a dollar each..

Right, so I think I'm getting warmer when it comes to dialing-in these little trays. This one was provided with a bit more FAE at day 14 and I'm already seeing better results. Think I waited a bit long but that's fine, next time. For the record I've tried just leaving the lids on like some have suggested because "it provides enough FAE..." Not in my home it doesn't, my mycelium just starts doing weird shit and so do the fruits.

This next tub was just spawned 2 days ago believe it or not. I'm getting tired of tossing out cakes at this point so before I shit the bed with this one I could use a trained set of eyes or two. Would you give this more time, or start flipping the lid? Am I supposed to wait for it to become one white mass on top or is it waiting for me to do my part and give it air?

My last question is regarding a shoebox that came from a garbo MS culture that is now in the garbage where it belongs. The cake decided that I fucked up soooo bad it literally pinned from everywhere but the surface (yea that bad). I did something it really didn't like and the surface took on the appearance of melted wax almost. Almost like it had all become matted and a very thin membrane was formed on the surface. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Too wet? Too dry? Cobweb possibly? Not enough FAE all of the above or a combination? No pictures of this one I apologize, I really should have documented that, however I was eager to flip the cake and let it finish doing it's thing so I can toss it in the back yard and forget it existed...
If anyone read this, thanks I appreciate you

Not too bad, but seems a little slow... how was the culture on grain/agar?

Does 15 grams of pe dry sound right for 1quart spawn to one quart substrate? Sound right for first flush? First shoe box. Don’t know what to expect for weight. I know there’s lots of variables.

My solo AA+ shoebox is pinning up. Spawned on 9/3
From what I've seen on my last run with them,AA+ never liked to colonize my top layer, but instead pin when they start to break thru.

That's not horrible! I Think PE usually yields less, and a good standard is one dry ounce per quart of spawn

I have a punch of small pins that look like maybe aborts. How do you guys rehydrate between flushes?

Can people actually see my posts or am I doing something wrong, is there some custom I'm not aware of? Should I just post my questions elsewhere?
Thanks.

I see it now, lots of us flip lids from spawn... so that's preference, but mushrooms and mycelium are aerobic organisms that require oxygen for healthy growth... matting can occur from too wet, too dry, too much heat, so really just a judgement call
Rj, just run an inch or so of water down one corner, let the sub sit for an hour or two, and drain it back off

Shoeboxes are designed to breath, so having clean spawn & getting your sub properly hydrated are the most important steps. If you did that, you shouldn't need to do too much for the first flush. Lid on or flipped will both work just fine.
That box looks good to me.

I'm gonna confess. I hope mushboy or someone else with experience chimes in.
I HAVE NEVER grown a full sized fruit out of a shoebox. Until I've thrown them outside on second flush.
With that said, these mini-fruits I'm growing are potent AF!
