Yea I’m def grateful I even have any to harvest but my last 2 boxes were bottom and side pin heavy and harvesting was a bitch. Guess I’ll be doing the same for these. The bottom and side are HEAVY HEAVY pinning and mushrooms growing up. Should have some interesting looking guys.

I would also be curious to know what your top layer consists of and if possibly tweaking the top layer a bit might help
Maybe just add a bit more verm for the top layer
Did g2g this morning, spawned 5 new boxes, now it's time to harvest these guys

Have a good Sunday my shoebox bretheren

As for side-pinning: would it make any sense to put up like a high margin of something like verm or preferably something much less breathable, which can then gradually drop into the crevice as the sub shrinks preventing the sides from breathing?
But maybe i don't fully understand the mechanics of side-pinning.. it's not 100% an intuitive phenomenon i'd say

Usually I don't see side pins first flush, but if I do, my procedure is usually pop the lid and most and keep the lid flipped, try and keep the surface conditions good, and just hope for the best
Seems rare I get more than a couple first flush

Very nice Enkidu! Got a bunch of boxes almost fully colonized after starting over and hope to achieve at least close to them results. Beautiful
Is that a 1:1 ratio?

Without the top being fully colonized, it won't hold surface moisture real effectively: can judge the moisture content based on the darkness of the casing... looks pretty good!

Thanks Caps, I went a bit too thick on top coir layer on the tub with more spawn, side pinning like mad, lesson learned. thinner casing, and going to try tamping down sides of the thicker subs. Although i'm confident i'll get a decent flush from it eventually.

I know they all look similar and can all have mutations like that but I’ve seen those on my ecuador boxes plenty of times since I’ve ran them. Probably every ecuador box had Atleast a few mushrooms with those top button looking things. And they look very similar also.
Did you get these in a trade or you just don’t remember what you started?

I don't case, it's not necessary with typical cubes... I've read PE&APE can both benefit from a casing, but have seen side by side grows (with and without casing) of penis envy with little to no difference; though seemed it was mentioned that uncased required one misting prior to first flush harvest, where cased did not... if it's not a PE variety, I'd not use a casing, and a liner is great for training your eye, but won't completely stop side pins if surface conditions are poor enough... With surface conditions closer to ideal, a liner isn't necessary to avoid side pins: even in subsequent flushes
