icetech said: So just curious, i just want to do one shoebox for testing, have never done coir before, if i'm reading right for 1 650g brick i should use about 1.75q of water? I believe it was bods bucket tek that said 5q for 3 bricks. Just want to get it right. Or should i use less than 650g of coir for 1 shoebox? long ass thread didn't see this exactly...
Basically what others said.
I do 5 boxes from 650g coir brick. About 4.5 qt water but I add some verm. 1-2 jars of spawn per box.

Bod said "Start with whatever weight of coir you want to use and multiply it by 5. for 650g of coir that's 3250. which is 3.25L of water.
These numbers are what I use but each person will have a different experience. It's a VERY GOOD idea to check field capacity rather than assume the recipe you follow will translate to your house 100% perfectly."

I can relate. I've moved 4 times since I started growing and each time it's like I have to start over. Environment is key.

Right, with my setup stillnin the garage and the temps up i had to start over. N9t as easy as in the winter. That simply seasonal, regional variations are huge.

For instance, my data point on what to use for 650g of coir is 3-3.2l of water. 2 cups of verm and 2 tsp gypsum if I'm making CVG.

For sure. Checking field capacity and adjusting if necessary is crucial

Last night i used a gallon of RO water on 800g of coir and it seemed a little dry, but since I had trouble with bacterial contam from seemingly wet coir I think I can manage this better.

some of my jars finish in one week with li some finish in two
some people here stay away from liquids
i had great success my first ever run with agar to li to wbs. made close to 20 shoeboxes and 2 contammed but I also was living in a very old house with roommates who loved to not take out compost and had tons of garden plants around the house.
i know the rough timelines
my goal is to dial in having boxes either pinning or close to it once i throw out the first or second flush of the shoebox
doubt it will be too hard

I was getting a lot of those for my first few grows this year. What fixed it for me was really trying to 1) level out the sub and then 2) pressing down the edges of the sub so it was packed down (but not too tightly).

No matter how level I make my sub, it always seems I should of done better when it gets colonized. I guess I'm gonna have to use a ruler or something.

I'm getting a lot in one of my boxes as well, but the other 2 seem to be coming in better on the top but considering I wasn't expecting any from this run due to bacterial looking jars, i'll take whatever I get, even if I got to take the sub out to harvest them from the sides
