I feel like these are looking really good. Each box was:
3/4 qt spawn from BRF cake (3 8oz cakes) 2 qt sub (coir, verm, castings)
Mixed and lightly filled, with 1/4-1/2" layer sub on top. These are 8 days old. Left is PESA, right is AA+. Close up is obviously PESA.
My thought is that it's time to start misting the top daily now. Agree? Disagree?

Disagree... I don't mist at all first flush, and never mist on a schedule; only when there is no surface moisture...

Duly noted, thank you! I'll just stand by patiently and monitor surface moisture as well as I'm able.

From what I can see you have good surface moisture already.

6 days after spawn and it looks like we're looking for more food and fresh air, it's almost time.

Are you still restricting FAE for a "colonization period "?

And on the 7th day there were primordia, and they were good.
Not really. Spawned then the lid was replaced. These lids leave much to be desired so there is plenty of FAE just not atmospheric conditions. The best Cubensis formations I've seen in the wild are half covered by dead or decaying palmfarns not always but it's just an observation. So I'm going for that, when pins come then atmospheric conditions follow. Stressing the cake to push for food and air until it goes for broke and decides to use all it's energy to procreate before it's too late. That's my theory anyway. It's a test box, no isolation (wish I had a flow hood) and no additives except gypsum when soaking the grain.

10 days after spawn there is obvious pinning taking place evenly across the substrate. Cluster formation can be observed near the oldest and largest pins relatively speaking.

I made a post about this as well, but figured id ask here too since ill be growing them in shoeboxes.
Have any of you guys grown Panaeolus cyanescens, specifically Pan Cyan Jamaica, in shoeboxes? And if so, were they any major differences compared to growing cubes? Im planning on trying them out for my next grow, but just want to make sure ill be able to grow them with my current setup. Ive heard that they thrive in 68-75 degrees, but ive also heard they require a major temperature drop in order to trigger fruiting. 68-75 would be perfect, but a temp drop would be hard to pull off with my current setup.

Pans are a different from cubes. Blue Helix says it best...paraphrasing...the most important thing is attention to detail. I would PM mary fairchilds, but first I would research the best grows. Find a user named Blue Helix and search his old posts here and on mycotopia.
There is not a better pan grower, period.
I have spent a year so far figuring out every which way they can't be grown and just now feel like I am getting a handle on it.
If you want to pop out a few fruits, then yeah, anyone can do that. But growing pans like a beast takes some background knowledge.
Oh, don't do them in a shoebox. Shallow trays are better. You want the sub + casing to be as close to the top of the tray as possible.

U can let it colonize somewhere up high and warm, and move it to a lower cooler position for fruiting. There's gotta be a warm spot in ur house like above ur fridge or oven. Then moving it to the floor near a window should give a good temp drop.

Oh fuck yes! Those are nice.
Edit: how was the tea? I love my tea with freshies. Looks like around 20 to 30 grams. I always add a bit of lemon juice and honey to the sauce pan as they're simmering.

Anybody know why this happens? My shoeboxes with 1 quart of spawn and 1 quart of coir do a lot better then my shoeboxes with 2 quarts of spawn and 2 quarts of coir.
Hereβs four different shoeboxes the shitty ones are both 2 quarts and the better ones are the one quart ones.
Same multispore variety and most of them out of the same exact spawn bag.
