Trich was present already, the dunk provided high moisture/ high co2 (anaerobic conditions) in which the trich took leading role... work on your sterile technique, in a SAB, to obtain clean spawn, allow it to fully colonize before spawning, and again before opening the tub... better luck next time, though to have a flush at all is success: so in that respect, congrats!

Impossible IMO... I believe all contaminated bulk substrates to originate from spawn, unless it's spent after several flushes... a healthy substrate will not contaminate, even open air fruiting: is why cakes do fine in sgfc: which only purpose is to maintain humidity

manure could if it weren't pasteurized properly and colonization was slow... But slow colonization would point to poor spawn as well in my opinion... Even if it weren't contaminated it would probably be a weak culture

Do any of you guys have a knife and/or scissors that you would recommend for harvesting shoeboxes? I currently use an exacto knife, and while it definitely gets the job done, it is very hard to harvest large fruits/clusters with only the small blade of an exacto knife. I tried using a large butchers knife from my kitchen, but found that it was too difficult to harvest with. Im not sure if maybe scissors would be a better option than a knife, but im just looking for whatever the best option is.

A large kitchen knife works well if you sharpen it so it that its sharp enough to cut easily without effort
Lately I started using a pair of kitchen scissors and it works really well... you can cut an entire cluster easily when you get the hang of it

Do you have a specific brand you prefer using? Or do you just use pretty much any pair of scissors? If i could find a super sharp pair of scissors that would probably make harvesting waaay easier.

Yea that was the problem with my kitchen knife probably. Hasn't been sharpened in many years if i had to take a guess. Any specific knife and/or scissor brand you'd recommend?

Since I stopped using liners and don't like to float the sub up, I've been finding this little folder to be perfect. The blades long enough to get through thick shrooms, but is small enough that I can get down in the tubs and maneuver without hitting sides and other clusters.

I just use a cheap breakaway razor knife fully extended... good for a dozen flushes or so, and you can adjust the length for cutting mature fruits from clusters that haven't finished completely

Most kitchen knives are really dull and don't cut very well because people never sharpen... sharpening your knives is a game changer
But if you're not having to reach down into your tub to harvest, then scissors are the way to go imo
I don't have a preferred brand... some brands are better than others but in the end as long as its sharp it works.

Damn yea its been forever since these things have been sharpened, i might have to invest in a knife sharpener.
I have been getting slightly better at dialing things in recently, so my flushes are starting to get a little denser. For a tub like the one in the picture below, do you think scissors or a knife would be the better route?

I only just started using scissors so my experience is limited, but so far I like them better for dense or not dense harvesting... just seems a little more precise with the cuts but it always comes down to how you use it
Also handy for cutting the end off a stem if you happen to catch a bit of sub on one

Alright sweet maybe ill order a pair of scissors right now then.
Would these work you think, or would they maybe be too bulky? Would they be sharp enough?

Do you know what brand that knife is, or where i could find it online? Im going to order a small knife like yours as well as a pair of scissors.

I see them at the check out lines of hardware stores all the time. Usually in a tub marked for a buck or so. No company markings this one.

I couldn't agree more. My wife bought a small knife sharpener from Amazon that has rough and fine sharpening stones that are set so you just pull your knife through a few times and it gives it the correctly beveled, sharp as fuck blades in seconds. Sharp kitchen knives are a life changer.

I use these cheap breakaway blades along with some twisting and pulling.I can get these for about $.25 each.
