Coir seems to do better "cooked " ,but if you wanted to take a chance, assuming it was clean, simply hydrating to field capacity would probably work... Quote:

Sterilizing basically defeats the purpose of poo

I didn't sterilize it. 1 hour isn't enough to sterilize. I do it every time I use this brand of poo and it works for me. Bovung manure humus at 1:1:1. It's in a yellow bag. Great stuff, mix in a handful of peat or coir and it's perfect.

I don't believe that is true, though, it's reported that a pasteurized poo sub will outlast a sterilized poo sub, which makes sense.

Something to do with the microorganisms left alive after pasteurization

I understand that part of it. But it does fine when I "sterilize" it. I think it's more of a case that it isn't necessary to sterilize poo. But u still can if u want.

Still doesn't mean that sterilizing it defeats the purpose of it. Some species (read Panaeolus) prefer/require a poo-based sub in order to fruit well regardless of whether it was pasteurized or sterilized.

Thank u! It's still poo either way. It's a bulk ingredient. The microbes just help out if they're there, but don't hinder how it works if they're not there. If that was the case, it would work the same way with sterilized grain. They don't lose anything beneficial from sterilizing them.

Point taken, just don't suppose I'd use poo over coir if I were sterilizing anyway... Not keen on eating from a box of shit if it's not necessary... I would like to grow some pans though so, may be getting my hands dirty anyways lol

Composted cow shit is like dirt. Don't think of it as like a big stinky shit haha. And I only use it for small experience to get myself acquainted to it so I can grow some pans when they come my way.

Hey guys, quick question. Sorry if this issue has been brought up before. I made 4 shoebox tubs recently without a liner. I followed the recommendation to make the sub level. In 2 of the 4 trays, the mycelial growth has completely messed up the leveled surface and now there are (some quite substantial) peaks and valleys. Has anyone else run into this? Will this affect even pinset or possibly cause side pinning?
Also, I love your username Tormato. I'm assuming it's named after the Yes album? One of my favorites
