It's another mushroom growing out of the cap. I see it all the time. Usually it's just gills though, which makes it look like a shroom with a very angry mouth.

I just did a batch of transfers of PESA, one transfer I literally just picked up a rope with the scalpel and transfered it. Between the rhizomorphs, the colonisation times, the resiliance and the strong fruiting output, this may be my favorite strain so far.

I popped the lid on these 2nd flushers when I saw pins and let them fend for themselves. About 3 days later they want out!

Is it a good idea to pop the lid at pins if it's pretty dry in your area?

I have some side/bottom pins popping up in my tubs, so im planning on removing the substrate from the tubs in order to easily harvest them.
Will flipping the substrate onto my hand in order to remove it from the tub damage any second flush knots/primordia? Im not sure how else to harvest the side pins, but if removing the substrate from the tub will damage the knots then ill definitely avoid doing it.

@flyhigh,
If you have a liner, I'll quote a TC:

I do this with all my tubs. Take out the poly, Lean it on it's side and get your whole arm under it. Then lean it the other way and slide it out onto a coffee table or something.
If not you can float the sub with water to get access to the side/bottom pins. I normally leave them if they aren't big enough to poke up above the sub since they're too small anyway.

I've got some fruits that are much further ahead than the rest of the bunch of which I'll have to harvest earlier. Any tips on preserving these until the rest catch up? I don't really want to run a dehydrator for just a small amount but will if I have too. Thanks!

According to others, you should be able to refrigerate the mushrooms for a week or so. That should give the other fruits enough time to develop and mature. Then dehydrate together.

Picked up one of these 20qt tubs at the mart tonight to try out. Its like an oversized shoebox that comes pre-dubbed. I'm sure someone else has already posted these in the 350 pages in this thread

My second attempt at some shoeboxes. No sign of contams like last time so I'm happy. I have been keeping these in a dark place but think I'll expose them to light soon. That should be all I need to do, right? Isn't it sort of set and forget?

Mycelium enjoys light at every stage of growth. DonΒ΄t keep it in the dark. Looking good. GL

I think I've been either making my coir a tad too dry or not adding enough coir and this has been affecting all my recent boxes.

Coincidentally, I moved my first shoebox sub out, and into a larger mono Sunday night. I just had so many side pins, I wanted to save them and not have them turn into mush. The other box I spawned at the same time looks quite different! As for drying small amounts, I highly recommend a 60-80mm, low rpm computer fan. They're almost all 12v, and I bet everyone here has an old 12v wall adapter they aren't using that they can cut and splice.

My first mono was in a 16qt tub, which ended up with massive side pins. I also tried to move to a larger box and everything up breaking it into 6-7 pieces. It still produced. Not as much as it "should have", but plenty.
