I didn't have a cheese grater for the brf cakes that I birthed. Broke them up by hand but tried to get them into fingernail sized pieces. Mixed with the chunky substrate. Applied half inch top layer of coir verm. That okay or did I blow it?

As long as they were not contaminated that's totally fine. I've made boxes with broken cakes in much larger chunks than you described and it worked fine. The cheese greater is totally unnecessary imho

Probably okay. Don't be surprised if you see mushrooms growing out of the inoculation points.

I think you might have misread that post, sir tiger. I birthed the cakes and broke them up and mixed them with substrate into a shoebox. No inoculation points!

Is there some kind of two phase process I need to follow for shoebox colonization into fruiting? Or should I just immediately expose to light for half a day from day 1 of transferring the spawn to box?

I believe your chunks are the inoculation points he is talking about.

I broke cakes up by hand for about a year. You'll be fine.

Yep do that, after you spawn jars to box, turn lights on 12/12 if they aren't, keep lid latched, you're now fruiting

Sorry can you clarify these instructions? English is not my first language. I am slightly confused by your phrasing

i think of it as one phase process. fruit from spawning is what you do with a shoebox. mix it up. fruit it from day one.

Is this a clone culture? I saw a pic in the other shoebox thread where that tub was labeled 6/23. I spawned 6 tubs that day and don't have a pin on any of them yet.
