Alright sweet. It seems like the puddles disappeared already, and now the mycelium is just matted down a little in those spots. Hopefully itll fluff back up. But ill definitely consider flipping the lids. Would i need to start misting if i do?
Also all of my shoeboxes look like the one in that video, however some of them have corners and/or sides without beads of water. I was trying to not mist at all during the first flush, but do you think i should try to mist these corners/sides.
Heres and example of a dry corner in one of them:

If you want it perfect you can, cover the area you dont wanna mist If you flip the lid, you only mist if the sub become dry, i dont think ull have to.

I gave this shoebox a bottom water(about 1/4 cup)and dubbed it. Let's see what they do.

Just haven't gotten around to it. BRF has always worked for me.And everything I do or need in the sterilization/inoculation/spawning process can be stored and done in my kitchen with minimal footprints, questions, smells(I've heard grain can smell while PC?),etc. My colonization/fruiting is done not in the kitchen.
It is some work to try to keep up with the big dogs of grain though.
But,I have been really thinking about it and researching it though.I actually just ordered some agar, and I've been gathering other supplies for doing grain(lids, filter discs, etc.)so it is in my future... I guess I'm just comfortable doing it the way I do.

I was just curious man. Yeah do what works and what you want. Just seems like it'd be a pain making all them cakes on a continuous rotation. Nice grows though bro. You do good work.

Day 2 on 1 pint to coir:

Some Stropharia starting to pin up:

Right after talk about corners drying out more, all of my boxes started having this issue. Guess I should have misted the corners:

Ive got 6 shoeboxes going right now, and they are in stacks of 2. Im noticing that the shoeboxes on the bottom of the stacks appear to be drying out quicker in the sides/corners of the surface than the tubs on top. Have you guys ever ran into this problem? Was stacking them not the best idea?

Mushboy thanks for the thread! Gonna pop my cherry here first post. Total noob gonna give the shoe boxes a run. After My first attempt at a mono well I don't know if you can even call it that. It was more or less experimentation I was expecting failure at every stage and had some success all the way to the tub amazing what I already learned But ended up growing a tub of hulk piss. gonna start a journal document the trial and error from start to first fruits any how few things I like about the shoe box . Not all my eggs are in the same bucket and I love the idea of getting a few going which allows for some experimentation while I learn this craft..I'm kinda a perfectionist and I'm already addicted to this new hobby got grains and agar everywhere already , there is something peaceful about getting stoned and doing some agar any how here are my shoe boxes the pics were taken three days after the grain hit the tubs. Thanks for all the info everyone much appreciated. http://

Dang I’m pissed two shoeboxes I have going have some side and bottom pins with none on top yet it’s been around a week since spawning it. I don’t know what happened my first three shoeboxes I had zero side pins and zero bottom pins. I must’ve made this substrate a little on the dry side. I just misted the tops of both hopefully I can turn them around.

Side/bottom pins happen. Its only a problem if its excessive and you're getting all side pins without much surface pins

So far I have no surface pins and a few side pins. But it’s only been about 6-7 days so maybe it will turn around

Those pins look pretty developed for being the only ones to show up to the party, but early fruiters happen sometimes so I wouldn't be worried about it yet.
If you get to the point where you have lots of pins coming in and they are all still on the sides, that's when its a problem

I honestly think it was too wet based on the weight of the substrate from the last harvest?
Maybe going bacterial?
The yellow is what is scaring me.
It's about a month and a half old so it has been good to me.
The cracks and breaks are from harvest's. Another reason I think it was too wet is because of how flimsy the substrate has gotten.
Really thinking about adding it to the graveyard but just wanted to ask first.
Thanks!

Did a dumb thing after second flush (flipped the subs over, dont ask, I knew it was probably a dumb idea when I did it, and did it anyway), and results have been less than stellar, but still getting some third flush gigantors.
