Yeah it is crazy
So different and unique though belonging to the same species (and genus for that matter)
Kind of like humans, maybe wiser
The same yet very distinct and different, all shapes and sizes and colors

Harvested this "menace" shoebox late last night. 4 BRF cakes spawned to 2qts coir/verm on 6/5. I had fun doing the whole "floating forest" thing during harvest.

Wow those are gorgeous. Great job. I currently have four brf cakes and can't decide whether to jar fruit or shoebox. I'm afraid to contaminate my first grow.

Did you do any holes for FAE or just loose lid? Did you trash bag during tub colonization?

No holes,NO trashbag?.Sometimes I dub tub them like the one above, sometimes I forget and leave the lid latched.
They get plenty of FAE through the lids. I've found that clean spawn and sub prep are key.Get your field capacity just right and you don't have to do anything but let them grow in these shoeboxes.

I would definitely do a shoebox spawning those cakes to bulk over trying to fruit in jars but thats just me.

I had the exact same first grow conundrum. Whether to spawn to shoebox or use SGFC, I went with shoebox and am glad that's the route I chose. Bucket tek Coco coir/Verm for sub, at field capacity, followed the tek, and my spawn was healthy (atleast healthy enough), and I got a solid 3 flushes out of it!
In fact I used 3 of my 4 for the shoebox, and did Bod's simple tek; fruited the fourth in the jar just incase my shoebox were to fail.

Thank you all for the insights. I'm grateful for the supportiveness of this community. This is definitely a tough hobby that requires a lot of attention to detail, patience, and willingness to learn from mistakes.
Endiku, I'd also love your opinion on my question below:

Thanks for this. Would you mind helping me with a spawn to coir/verm ratio? I'm thinking I'll fruit 2 as jars, and shoebox the other 2. That means 1 pint of spawn available for the shoebox. So should I do 1 pint spawn : 2 pints coir/verm from bucket tek?
Also, what size sterlite tub should I use for this? I've got a 20quart /19 liter sterlite, but it says "air and moisture-resistant seal" on the lid. No good for FAE?

Sooooo, my 16qt mono was getting crazy side pinning, and only a very few on top, and I didn't want them to go to waste, so I decided to transfer the sub to a wide 28qt mono so the side shrooms might have a chance. Of COURSE I over estimated how sturdy the sub was :|
Still, I got it transferred and gave it a light misting, and I'm optimistic.

Just curious if anyone notes a better performance via lid flipping, setting the lid on loose, or using a grocery bag? Or are they generally the same?

I've had good results without even unlatching the lid.
Sometimes I just leave the lid unlatched and they push it up.
But I get the taller fruits when I dub.

Grocery bag? I can't find a pic of them under the grocery sac,but these were fruited that way.

Seems like I see good results from all options..
Bodhi, given that you use simpler setups like the unmodified mono tubs, why do you choose to use a grocery bag instead of just leaving the lid on/loose? You see better results with the sack?

I just got a gnat plague in one of my boxes which has been quarantined and insect tape put up in several spots. So far seems to be working and I just got a flush from said box..

Totems:
Use the 6qt sterlite box with the pic of yellow shoes on the label if possible, but most 6qt tubs should work, read through this thread if you want, all the info you need and more is definitely here! Also I would do about 1 qt-2qt of sub for 2 cakes! But I still think if your spawn is healthy you’ll be wishing you used 3 cakes instead of 2 for the shoebox lol

This is solid advice. I will follow it.
Hey, do you know anything about fruiting in a brf jar though? Because if I do that for one of my jars, the process is basically to unscrew the lid, scoop out the top layer of verm, apply a new layer (why?) and mist. My question is, do I need to sterilize the new verm by baking it or anything like that?

After you float the sub up and harvest, what do you usually do with the tub to prepare for a 2nd flush? I usually dub tub my shoeboxes during the first flush when the fruits get too tall for the lid. So after i float/bottom water the tub should i put the dub tub back on, or should i put the lid on and treat the 2nd flush just like the first flush?

If I have a lid around,I put it on and treat the 2nd flush like the first,(takes up less space and stackable)but I have just put the dub tub back on.

Room for the fruits to grow
