I need to remind myself to kiss and stick with the basics (for now), because my natural inclination is to try to "innovate" and get creative.

Sooooo this is a bit of a surprise... I just checked that 16qt mono that I under-inoculated about 5 days ago, and it looks like it's got A TON of side pins (I only looked at one side) and several on top. But it doesn't at all look completely colonized. I'll grab some pics tomorrow.

First successful shoebox, had two that got taken by the flies... Agar to grain, fruit at spawn on 1/6.

Might be bacteria present if its not fully colonised yet pinning. . . not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes bacterial sub = big flushes

Wow, Oeric, that looks great.
Okay, here's what I'm looking at. In looking at the pics I see an odd green thing I need to check on when I get home (in bottom right pic near pin).
Advice? Leave it in the dark? Put it in the light?

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate at all? What doesn't look good? What can I learn from it? By "outside" do you mean outdoors? What is the objective there? Thanks in advance.

They shouldn't be in the dark all the time. Light is beneficial through all stages of cultivation.

Yeah what he said.
What doesn't look good is that green that you mentioned in the bottom right pic.
Some someone else identify what that is and how to deal with / address it ..?
Mushboy you don't see that gross green shit in the bottom right pic near the center?
What the hell is that ...?

Hey everyone, I've got 4 colonized 1/2 pint jars. Thinking of going shoebox; it turns out I was following a bulk method incorrectly and didn't have nearly enough jars.
Could I do 2 jars in a very small shoebox, and 2 in another? How big a box would you recommend for a small project like that?
What's the best spawn to substrate ratio? 1:2? 1:4? I've heard different opinions and I have no idea who to believe. If it helps, I'm going coir/verm a la damion5050's tek.
And what about FAE? Holes, or just loose lid?
