I am casing 3 trays of pans tomorrow. 1:1 peat moss verm. I'll use the same on the APE's.
Right on! What type of pans? Bisporus, Cyans, Cinctulus?
I've got some Bisporus in their 3rd isolation on agar as we speak...prolly gonna go to grains after this plate!

Not quite. I used shoeboxes as trays. I am putting them in my GH. Without lids.

I have never cased and always treat them the same as other cubes, maybe mist a little more but that's about it. These are my results:

All different shoeboxes with similar results. For me, I think it is more about keeping the surface conditions prime. I find that I'm able to do that without casing.

I personally twist and pull mine off the sub. Have never cut them like that and my second flushes are usually better than my first. How would you say cutting them effects the second flush?

I would like to twist and pull but on the first flush, they were all clumped together at their fuzzy feet...
I guess twist and pull do a better job leaving the substrate cleaner for a second flush. I feel like i leave way too much shrooms stump, leaving way less spaces for a good second flush, i think ill try on that second flush some twist and pull since they are not all clumped.
Well, its my first harvest, i think if im getting better at harvesting, meaning leaving a much cleaner substrate will help to get a better second flush, maybe im wrong. Future gonna tell me i guess.

I regularly pull out a little bit of sub with my fruits, even though its bad practice
leaving stumps doesn't really matter.. it will just myc over eventually
You want a level surface for ideal conditions in general, and also you don't want to damage your sub by tearing it up, so both of these ideas factor into clean harvesting
But I don't usually worry much about it as long as I got a solid first flush

You say that myc will eventually go over those stump, does that mean shrooms can grow over those stump after ?

I’m curious about this also just harvested my third tub in three days and all of them were cut just like SebQc with many sumps. Hydrating now for the second flush but not much room for pins as previously stated.
Hey SebQC are those the huautla still? They look great! I have a huautla syringe in the fridge

I could see how it would be difficult with how many shrooms you had to twist and pull. I’ve never cut myself, but a lot of big time growers cut and they seem to still get second flushes. I never have enough shrooms to cut lol, hopefully that changes as I get better.
You did amazing for your first grow. I’ve never had a canopy yet that looked like yours. Experimentation is good so you know what works best for your personal growing preference. I pull up some sub too when I twist/pull. I do my best not to, but it seems to recover alright for the most part.
