You can separate the sub from the tote by bending the container around and plopping up the bottom. Once it's loose, you can often just pick up clusters of mushrooms at the tops and lift the sub out completely.
Great flush, pixel. What are those? GT were the only one I remember growing with tons of small fruits. Curious about final weight on that, as well.

Here is the thread I was thinking of about removing the sub: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24761383#24761383

Those were Costa Rican. I grew quite a lot of shoeboxes and some mini-monos, every flush except a couple produced small fruits like this. Each flush came out about 1 - 1.5 oz (dried) if I remember right. Each shoebox was 1qt of spawn or less. Those photos were actually from the last grow I did some months back.

I think I’m going to try this soon. My first time growing any mushrooms have some PF tek jars and also a grain bag almost colonized. I’ll probably do the cakes like normal in a SGFC but most likely use the grain for shoeboxes. Seems like a good way to go. Been reading through this thread for the past hour or two.
So it seems most people just leave the lid on and don’t really fan much because the lids allow enough FAE correct?
Can’t wait to try it out. I was going to do bods Unmodified mono but can’t find the same container and these shoeboxes are just too cool!

I'm not saying I recommend it, but some of those canopy shoebox flushes I was getting which includes the photos I posted above, were grown open air with lids off except at night when I'd put the lids back on.
After this, I tried some different things to experiment but the initial ones I did open air during the day performed the best out of all.
It was probably just because it was my first set of shoeboxes and I was super into it, paying lots of attention to monitoring their daily conditions.
*Edit: I definitely would not recommend open air to a new grower

i see you said you like to keep the top open air
but to those who keep them closed, does the air get stagnant? how do you prevent green mold?

Open air is a considerable amount more work than leaving lids on, and requires constant monitoring/upkeep. I would say its enjoyable provided you have the time to do so, but its not my go-to by any means.
I think my getting used to the upkeep for open air kind of screwed up my next ones which I kept lids on, but still tried to do more upkeep than I should have (mainly worrying too much about moisture levels).
Lids on or loose is totally fine, as long as you have healthy sub

the totes are not air tight. they breathe just fine. you prevent green mold with clean spawn.

Pixelpopper, I had a bunch of mini-fruits on my PE6.

Like mushboy said, apparently they were potent AF. I gave like 28oz to all the dudes at my barber shop...they think I'm some kind of god now lol. One dude curled up on the floor in the fetal position for 4 hours. Good sign.

I also feel like the smaller mushrooms are slightly more potent per gram compared to the "giant" size caps. I like the smaller "bite size" fruit when they come, but they can be a bitch to harvest.

The little Costa Ricans were very potent indeed... yes, harvesting is much more of a pain than larger fruits

First attempt at spawning brf to bulk. Roughly 1pt. Brf to 4cups cvg. I just smashed up colonized cakes, and i tried some plastic containers that sandwich meat comes in. they worked well i put holes in the corners. smashed it up good and threw it into a shoebox, added 4/5 cups of cvg, mix it up well, leveled the surface, flipped the lid upside down at about 60% colonized. Checked on them twice a day.
This is one with a verm layer, others did just fine without. And heres my results so far!

couple days later...
few more days later, and pins!
so far so good!
daily progress!
Heres some of the others,
Big thanks to the shoebox growers who shared their teks!!
