Oh no, fast colonisation! That's a symptom of good genetics! Hurry and dump that tub!
*If you are looking to case, about now might be the time. It's really up to you, I've learned you can choke sub out though if ya wait too long*

Lol, i read so much in the last 3 months... I think sometimes i mix info... If its sign of good genetics then im more than happy ! Im not gonna dump those , not yet Im not gonna case those tube either, i may test this in another grow, like with PE.

Experience shoeboxes Small spawn trays by Ziran
GET YOUR FIELD CAPACITY DOWN!!
Shoeboxes are a lot of fun. they are a great go-between from trays in a sgfc to full blown monos. a normal tote can hold 3 shoeboxes/trays. You can also just crack the lid and fruit inside its own tote. super multitasking.

Each tray can hold up to six quarts. you can make some hefty trays with a 1:1 ratio. normally i do 2 quarts spawn and 2quarts cvg. Filling up the mono with the trays is basically they same as doing a mono. the same principals of the mono are in play. a good thing is that if 1 tray goes bad you can localize and toss it without disrupting the remaining trays. seeing a speck of trich on a gaint mono sucks ass.
I use 80qt totes.

Each shoebox is about a dollar depending on where you shop. i prefer to grab them at target. the ones at mega hardware stores are always filthy with thick dust. the ones at target are always super clean. i avoid walmart at all costs.

Get you spawn ready! today will be 2 quarts of AA+, 2q of mexican(cube) and 1q from a jar that had the label fall off. oops.

Take your coco based substrate(I PCed mine in 4qt batches)

Then i dump my spawn in the shoebox.
dump in 1.5 quarts... roughly.. of PCVG.

Mix it all up really good. get in the corners. be thorough. I just use gloves wiped with iso. you can go bare handed but i hate dirty nails.
Make it as level as you possibly can. I get really upset with myself if i do not make them level.
I then clean up the edges with a wet iso cloth and apply the remaining half Q(roughly) as a top layer to cover grains and make level.

4 total quarts fills it right to the fabricated ridge in the tote. makes leveling easier
  SUPER OCD ABOUT BEING LEVEL!
Sometimes you realize you didnt mix it up that well.. its not a big deal but try to mix it up your best.

Thats all. repeat as needed. Label as desired. I like to label with..
-variety -date when tray was made(today) -how much and what type of sub used
when you have lot of different things going, proper labeling is super important
(i cracked my tote. fixed it with packing tape. who cares)
How does that "shoebox" tote hold humidity? do you just let it sit until it fruits? Do you mist?
if you can go into some detail about all that i would appreciate it

read that tek. its only 280pages.
humidity isnt something i bother to measure but substrates produce heat and they evaporate. building the micro climate inside the tote. sterlittes are not air tight either so it gets plenty of air.
you should NOT be misting before the first flush. i sometimes do but just to finely tune my surface conditions. when i do mist i keep the mister FAR AWAY from the surface and i mist the air above my totes so the mist settles like morning dew.

Hey Bill....
I find shoeboxes to be great!.. just set it and forget it till 1st flush done.. I skipped cakes in sgfc and started with this... increased yield and less maintenance.... win win
...highly reccomended..

That is very subjective mush boy. I live in a very dry climate where I have to mist my sub and tub walls or else it turns yellow and shrivils up 1" from the wall on each side. I'm not saying you are wrong, you might live in a climate where you have to do that. Though it's still should be taken with a grain of salt and where you live.

i can not really agree with that only because where i live is rather dry, especially inside my house. dont mist your walls. if its THAT dry? id dunk my grains and spawn to insanely perfect field capacity bulk sub. not a tab under capacity
where you live bro? the other day you mentioned being around virginia

I did? The only place I live is in the middle of buttfucking nowhere. Though I could hike to the Canadian border in 1/2 a day.

I guess it also depends on how much ya fill the container. How hot it is. A bunch of factors I probably have different that result in more matainence.

true dat.
and from a teaching standing point is way easier to go with a 'steady' approach like, cover and do not mist. the whole thing is designed to help people learn and identify HOW to grow shrooms using a mini bulk method.
no holes, no fans, no humdifiers. just the grower and the substrate and your eyeballz.

It holds humidity great. Dub tub works great. I like that I can control fae by how lined up the dub is with the tub.
Need your guys help.

Is that myc...? Can't say I've ever seen that like that and I've done like close to 60 shoebox's by now I would say. Maybe more.
I harvested, didn't rehydrate, snapped on the lid for like two days, and was about to rehydrate now.

Could you soak perlite and layer it on the bottom and put a tray or 2 on the perlite?
I just don't see one of those holding 90%+ humidity..
And how does it get fresh air?
1 more question...do you always put the shoeboxes into a larger tote? Or can you just use 1 shoebox itself if you wanted?
