hi, mushroom friends. sorry for the lack of pics, I don't have a camera atm.
I have one quick question if I may ask.
I have 2 fully colonized shoeboxes fruiting for about.. 5 days, 19 hours. Spawned on the 16th.
Is it normal for me to not have to mist and is it okay for me to leave the lid on to fruit? I noticed when I flipped that my sub turned a little yellow in a random spot and when I put the lid back on the discoloration ceased and my tub started to pin. Also that the beads of moisture haven't been evaporating(to my knowledge). Is this normal?
So that was 2 questions, I will post pictures later. I am pretty sure I have read that some people set and forget with the lids on until after the first flush Or can I do that every flush if it's getting me fruits?
These are my first boxes and I started about 6 so sorry if I sound a little naive! I am heh.

Mushrooms might run out of space to grow and might show signs of lack of fae if you leave the lid completely snapped on, for example developing "fuzzy feet" or growing skinny.
I think Munch fruited boxes like that with a short sub layer and they seemed to do fine.
The beads of moisture probably aren't evaporating because you have the lid snapped on so it has limited fae.
Not sure what the yellow would be, I would say because it was drying out but from what you say it sounds like its not if there are constant beads of water.

Pictures of the yellow might help. Could be metabolites reacting to standing water..?

I almost always leave the lid on and don't loosen/dub it until the pins are quite lengthy and almost the height of the shoebox lid. I've found that it retains moisture for me best that way, but my climate is diff than the next man's and so on and so forth. I'd consider it a good thing your moisture content is right and you got a steady layer of water drops on the surface. Not having to mist just makes things that much easier and shouldn't be anything to worry about unless your sub is waterlogged or something but at that point it would look wet in top, not sprinkled with water drops.

That's more or less how I do my tubs as well. Lately I have been testing the difference between popping the lid at more like 30-60% top layer colonization to see what the difference is since i've never really done it much that way at all.
I also wonder if different varieties grow differently under different conditions.... Maybe some varieties grow better this way while some grow better that way...

Here is a picture of the tub with the yellowish stuff. It is pinning slightly on the top but both of my tubs have side pins. Oh well going to have to learn to fix that.

Here is my other tub fruiting. but yeah like I said I haven't had to mist all that much, so I just want to make sure it's okay. THanks all for looking!

Might need a bit more FAE, isn't lack of FAE the cause of the aerial myc and climbing the walls of the tub due to high co2?

I might as well put it out there that I'm home all day long so is it wise to leave the lids off during the day and mist when I no longer see beads of moisture? I can handle monitoring them all day if that will make conditions better.

Yes I do. But these 2 currently fruiting were the wrong shoeboxes so they aren't snap on lids. They are the shoebox with the clear view and two purple latches. I can see dry lines by both handles but yeah. Suggestions? Thank you very much Enkidu for all your help!

Hmm good question.. I've done two APE boxes and both of them seemed to need more fae earlier on in the fruiting process. Gonna be spawning a half dozen more in a few days so I'll see if it's like that again.

No problem.
I'm not sure what your lids are but I would definitely either flip the lids to add a bit more FAE and leave them flipped or I would dub them and leave them dubbed, don't latch the lids on anymore, and then just observe and mist as needed.
In theory, max FAE is best if you can keep the humidity high. I would be apprehensive about fruiting open air as you asked about but others do it I believe. In theory if you keep the humidity high then max fae which allows more frequent evap and misting would be optimal. But again, I would be apprehensive suggesting you try it. I would stick with a flipped lid or dub for the time being.

For sure dude. Thanks again. I'm going to flip both lids and keep a close eye. Have a great one guys!

You could also off center the dub or the lid to give a crack and increase FAE more as well, and observe surface conditions for water droplets and evaporation while doing so, as opposed to going full open air, just throwing that out there as well. Just be careful because its easy to let the sub dry out IMO.
Good luck

That's what the syringe said from a sponsor. I agree with you. They do take a long time to fruit tho. Looks like a classic cube but they are potent as hell. And prone to blobbing so idk?

Spawned 8 days ago, but it seems dry, should I go ahead and start misting?
