Hi, I am totally new at this, inoculated a bunch of 1/2 pint brown rice flour verm jars that appear to be colonizing nicely and after seeing this thread, I want to use some of them to try this shoebox thing rather than just the straight pf tek. That said, I want to make sure I have my plan straight: Gonna use a cheese grater and grate some of my fully colonized jars, mix 1/2 and 1/2 with some bulk substrate, put in a shoe box, close the lid and let that colonize for 10 to 14 days. As long as that goes as planned, move onto the dubtub thing, mist a few a times a day and hopefully have some mushrooms in a couple of weeks. That sound about right? I live in a cold weather spot, so also wondering about temperatures for the two above mentioned stages? Your time and patience with my newness is appreciated.

For the most part
It's not a chia pet though so you only mist when it needs it and sparingly at that.

What do you use to judge for when it needs that misting? And, anything about the temps for the two phases?

Around 70 temp is good.
You applying top* layer of straight coir after you spawn to tub?
If so I would wait for the top layer to colonize or almost colonize then flip the lid or go to dub. If there aren't beads of moisture when you do this then mist. If there are beads of water then don't mist and once they're gone, mist.

dont think of it as two phases. you could leave the lid on the entire time if ya want. the dubtub is just for growing room, thats it.
also, at first.. i would take a good pic, post it here and ask if it needs a mist. if you do your bulk prep correctly it shouldnt need any misting before pins come in
and if it does need a mist? post here first. until you know. over saturated shoeboxes are lame.

I appreciate all the cool folks helping out here. If you have the time and inclination to explain what you mean as well as if I should do that "top layer after spawn to tub" comment then I can say if I am doing it. And, what's a sticky thread and how to find that? Again, thank you.

Sticky stays at the top of the posts. So in the mush cult thread, scroll up, those posts you see st the top are "stickied"
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053
A top layer is when you spawn your jars and mix with the coir, save some coir, a couple handfulls or so, so you have enough to sorrad a thin layer on top of the mixture of coir and spawn.
So you mix the coir and spawn in the tub, saving some pure coir unmixed, then throw an even layer of pure coir on top of the mixture of coir/spawn in the tub.
All you need is enough to cover the top nicely. don't pack it down or anything

This is the shoebox I finally got under control haha I've been misting like every other hour to bring it up to a good moisture level. It's been trying to pin since the 10th so hopefully it will start now lol

Was so glad i became so conservative for my 1st time. And split my planned dosage for my wife. @ 12g wet weight. I was seing fractal light and images after an hour although in outdoors while sitting. So much tears of joy fell while reflecting about life which filled my heart with full of unconditional love.
Its been 8 hrs now from taking Im having a feeling of ego death but everyone are still asleep glad there is shroomery.
