Yeah I soak in an old pillow case on medium for about 45 min, them it hits the oven for a drying. I find if it stops smelling like horse shit it's perfect.
So Ras......... This shit isn't that old but it was dry and had that golden color, if I put in the oven and dry it out, how will it be wet enough to spawn on and then have fruits?
I am obviously missing something.
More than likely, I will use it just the way it is, but I like when I get comments so I can learn new things.

For the record....
Been a while since I have done shoebox's.
I have been mentioning to people that my strategy is to spawn, leave lid on, wait for pins and fruits, and then pop lid and mist.
I just today realized since this is the step I am at with my shoebox's... That is in fact not what I do.
What I do is spawn, wait for full top layer colonization, then pop the lid and mist, and flip the lid and replace, then i wait for pins and mushrooms... Forget to mention that step with the lid flip when I explained before... mist when needed, once pins and mushrooms form and start reaching the flipped lid, I dub tub.
Just in case anyone who I mentioned my shoebox procedure happens to see this..
My apologies..
I've been reading about people who spawn their shoeboxes and leave the lid snapped on until the pins reach the lid and it needs to be dubbed for space issues, OR until it looks like the substrate is drying out. What are your, or other people's views, on leaving the lids on vs flipping them once the top is fully colonized (as you suggest)? The tops of mine are fully colonized, lids haven't been removed yet and there still seems to be plenty of moisture contained in there. This is my first bulk grow so I am still trying to gather as much info as I can.
Cheers

You would probably be fine either way to be honest dreamscape.
I think if there's moisturr you're fine to let it sit and develop the pin set.
If you prefer you could flip the lid and mist when needed.
Now I can't remember what I do. Maybe some tubs I did leave the kids snapped until pins I'm guessing I did both and now can't remember what worked best for me
I'll figure it out again
I think there's the theory out there that higher co2 vs higher o2 with fae helps encourage more pin formation, hence leaving the lid on until full pin formation. But I think a flipped kid works very similarly

That makes sense that they would perform pretty similarly if you started to mist if you decided to flip the lids. I think I may leave them snapped until I see pins or lack of moisture. Mostly because I am trying shoeboxes in an attempt to not have to mist and fan 6 times a day.
My next thought was to put these shoe boxes into a monotub once they start fruiting. I had thought this would help them retain more moisture and be more 'hands off'. now I read that you still need to mist the shoe boxes in a monotub too.
Ideally, I could find some method where I could potentially leave them for a day and not risk them drying out and dying on me
Thanks again, I will update this thread with some progress!
Cheers all!

A mono I'm guessing holds moisture better especially if it has more than one shoebox, these shoebox's definitely have lots of hands off potential. I've dubbed boxes not too long ago prior to a short vacation, misted one time, left on a dub, came back 6 days later and had like 3-4oz from 4 boxes.
Lots of box's I've had where I was busy with work and school and lots got neglected and did just fine.
I do keep my room nice and warm, but they seem to do fine during first flush without getting too dry, then once rehydrated they are more or less ready for the same so and wait for fruits to mature scenario, imo

Wow almost a week after a mist and they were OK? That is impressive. Gives me some hope that I can take off for a couple days and things will survive.
I am excited for this tek, I think it's a good alternative to cakes for the time being and a nice intro to bulk mono tubs. in addition to them being badass on their own!
It is still chilly here so I sometimes struggle to keep the room above 70 degrees.

No no no, leaching is a process of soaking and drying, the sun's uv light does more work than the hot soak and dry. Since most of us can't produce uv light like the sun and have the time to leach unwanted nutrients out of it, people use a process of boiling the shit in a pillow case and drying it out. I'm not giving you a TEK, I just know of the process.

So, let's see what happens. I find it fascinating to see what works, why and when it doesn't work, why not. All I did was boil the horse shit, and tonight, I spread a quart of colonize bird seed into shit that was up to the line on the shoebox (3").
I will post if and when I start to see the spawn taking over on top of the shit.
My other boxes where I mixed in a couple of handfulls look like they're doing fine.
With G2G and shoeboxes, you end up with so many fruits etc -it's insane!

Best of luck on it. You'll probably be fine, they are mushrooms, if they can do it in the wild surely you can do it too.
