I gotta try it and see what happens. I don't plan on doing them any different than I do the other tubs.
Just need to see first hand the difference without changing how I treat them

Munchauzen said: Misting is for keeping the surface conditions perfect in a shoebox. Without misting, you will be hard pressed to keep them correct without the aid of a greenhouse. Even in a monotub, they still need misting. Misting, however, will not replenish the extensive amount of water lost from the fruits that have grown. After harvesting, you need to dunk your substrate to force the mycelium cells to hydrate again. This is accomplished by weighing down your substrate and covering it with as much water as possible, preferably in a large sink.
I found this comment from munchauzen, but he doesn't say how long to dunk the substrate for. How long do you guys usually dunk your shoeboxes for before the second flush?

As a rule of thumb I don't like to let anything sit in water more than 24hrs. Whether it's dunk or bottom water, subs seem to get soft after that long in water.

I find 2hrs is more than enough or you run the risk of your sub crumbling when you handle it, half the time I dont dunk till after 2nd, unless the subs shrunk a lot during the first flush.

Typically 3-4 days but I had one swab that took a week. Some that I sent out were lighter than others

How long has it been? Spores might not have been deposited. You might swab a couple more plates.

So I decided to add a extra light for my stack. They seem to be coming along nicely with a couple side pins already, so I misted the surface a bit, gave them a quick sage swipe, and played them some singing bowls.
 It’s a good day

This South American is climbing the walls and pinning in alot of my tubs/shoeboxes.Is it something I'm doing,or could it just be the MS nature of this variety?

Suppose I'll add to this thread.

Might just be me but those look like big drops of water. I'd ease up on the misting.

I was thinking the same, that maybe it was overly wet,but I haven't misted this box yet.Maybe my sub was too wet. Here's another box that climbed and pinned as well.

Could it be a moisture issue?I think I'll go flip the lids on my boxes for awhile.

Do you give your sub mix a big hard squeeze before you use it, to check moisture level?

I think it might be, one of my current shoeboxes was overly wet and threw up a few pins to begin with but has only just started to pin after I left the lid off for a few days.
Let it dry out a bit and it should be fine
