Is it alright if the light comes from the side of the shoebox? Or would that cause the fruits to not grow straight up?
I've got one of these lights roght now that I'm planning on sticking to the wall next to the tub. Would that be ok you think?

LEDs typically range from 2700-3000k, you want something closer to the 6500k. Doesn’t mean it won’t work, but far from ideal

i use 3 6500k lights all around a closet with shades so it creates ambient light. then the mushrooms grow up because of gravity.
i guess

Since I'm not able to do that do you think this setup would be alright? Im worried the mushrooms will grow completely sideways towards the light

They will grow up due to gravity, not sideways towards light.

They may lean toward the light, but not too drastically.

Thanks guys!
I'm unsure on how much to mist... I've been hitting them several times a day basically trying to constantly keep a layer of microbeads on the surface. I've had several people tell me that's fine but now I'm unsure... I'll lay off and try to give them a light misting just once in the morning and see if that helps things kick in. Also it sounds like it could take a few more days so I'll stay patient..
As far as misting I was going with ..as long as it's not pooling it's good to go.. but maybe I'll ease back a little bit..
Thanks so much for the feedback I'm really trying to make this be as successful as possible and pay attention to things real close

Yea ive been wondering about this as well.
Are you supposed to let the microbeads completely evaporate before misting again?

I'll start waiting for beads to evaporate before I mist again...

I've got 5 1/2 pint brf cakes inoculating. 4 1/2 pints = 2 quarts. So if I got the shoebox and did 4 1/2 pints with 2 quarts of JUST coir, would that work as well? I saw in bod's tek he just uses coir as substrate but that was with oats. Can the same be done with this? Also is it just misting and fanning as needed? and can i turn the lid upside down to add a little FAE?

Your math is off bud. There's 2 pints in a quart. So..
4x 1/2 pints = 2x pints = 1x quart

Yea that is technially true but several people have told me that 4 cakes will grind up to 2 quarts. I guess it must fluff up a lot when grated.

Idk, I been doin brf cakes to bulk recently. The right math seems to give me the right amount. Never heard someone suggest using half volume for cakes.

voodoochild1000 said: Sweet!.... Will get coir on wed! Planning on shoeboxes... what's a good ratio of substrate to cakes? Super pumped!
1:1 I use 2 quarts of cake and 2 quarts of coir.
..so 4 half pints to 1 quart of coir/verm?.... damn didn't think I needed that much....so 8 cakes for 2 quarts of coir/verm? I'm Gonna go though these jars fast!....
How many shoeboxes can I do with that much?... looks like I'm gonna have to buy more syringes asap!
Thanks for the help Bro! I'm gonna have to start isolating and cloning immediately!
I heard that 4 cakes actually comes out to around 2 quarts. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes I use 4 half pints which equals 2 quarts after being grated, and 2 quarts of coir.
I asked the question in the brf to bulk post a while back and that's what they told me. The creator of the thread also responded back woth the same answer.
It usually takes you 8 cakes to equal 2 quarts?

Yes,it will fluff up once grated.I usually just call my spawn ratio 1:2,(4 half pint cakes to 2qt spawn)but it's all the same either way you look at it.
That's the quote from the creator of the brf to bulk post, i guess I had too many quotes in my last post so I couldn't add it there

I call it what it is.A half pint cake = A half pint spawn. Some use the same and call it more, but it's the same just fluffed up.We just adjust our ratios accordingly.Ratio wise, fluffed up it's quoted as 1:1 but I call my ratio 1:2 and use the same amount of cakes/bulk sub. Confused yet?

yea. Once it's grated it's a little fluffier, but 4 pints still fill around 1/3 of a 6qt shoe box for me.
Maybe you just need to see how much yours breaks out to? That suggestion to use half is new to me. Idk what we might be doing different, could be couple things.

So, nate you write, 1:2 spawn:total sub? I thought it was Spawn:coir. Like 1:2 is 1qt spawn and 2qt coir. I'm a little confused how you wrote that.
Wouldn't a third of a 6 quart shoebox be 2 quarts? Or do you mean it fills it a third of the way once mixed with substrate also?
And yea i think he's saying that he writes 1:2 since that's technically what it is but after fluffing up it could also be considered a 1:1 I guess he's saying?

Depends on the shape of the shoebox and what you mean by a third
