Are you supposed to continue to mist and maintain beads of moisture on the surface even once you have mushrooms growing? Or would misting the shrooms cause them to abort?

Good question. I let my sub dry out cause I thought misting would damage the shroom. So I watered down the side of my tub with a syrenge to get it rehydrated. I misted first and everything looks fine.

Naw they'll be aiiight
Sometimes when it rains it pours...
Mother nature can be brutal.
Pretty sure RR himself said it's good for the mushrooms and doesn't cause aborts, but don't quote my quote
I usually still mist my box's once or twice a day when I have mushrooms.
Provides water directoy to the mushroom, to the sub, and can help with humidity...
Correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm checking them several times a day and definitely misting in the morning and before I go to bed. Basically trying to constantly keep a nice layer of microbeads on the surface...

You want to keep your surface covered in beads of moisture. If you let it dry out, the mycelium will harden and be less prone to produce fruiting sites. A dry surface often results in side and bottom pins.

Thanks munch.... I'm basically monitoring it several times a day and making sure I can see a nice Glisten of beads. Just making sure I don't see any pooling...
I'm definitely getting some side pins on my first box and hopefully proper mist and well help the surface pop up more evenly!
FYI seeing your pics and description of doing shoe boxes at the beginning of this thread was my main inspiration for going right to Doing shoe boxes and skipping the whole sgfc and cakes thing! props!

Some pretty small fruits, idk the genetics but maybe you used too much water in your sub prep.

yeah they've all been pretty small so far, it was a liquid culture GT got from a buddy, so far these are the biggest ones I've gotten yet, next sub prep I'll try going a little lighter the water

I've been getting much smaller fruits from GT than I have been from GWM and B+. We'll see if this continues on the next box, which is BRF cakes to CVG instead of rye spawn. They do seem to make up for it in the experience though.
