I don't know why everyone has such an issue with distilled water. Some people say it can kill you if you drink it, saying it can leach minerals from your body (which it does, but only the inorganic minerals which are floating around which your body cannot absorb, this is a good thing).
People are told to use tap water for almost anything mycology related (outside agar work) because it has lots of 'good stuff' mycelium like to feed on.
People ignore all the crap which has been put into the tap water thanks to the water treatment plants, notice they are treatment plants, not filtration/purification plants.
I only drink distilled water, use it for every aspect of growing mushrooms, if I had a big enough distiller, I'd bath in the pure water. I've never had any deformations on my shrooms and I credit that to good pure water.
just my 2c on the matter.

Around here, we deal with a lot of contaminates in water, aside from having very hard water. PCB's. Agriicultural chemicals. Feedlot runoff. The list goes on.
We use a five stage countertop filter which is warrantied for 36 months. We have to replace it every 5-6 months. It does however seem to work well for mushrooms, a lot better than straight tap water. Bottled is okay, but a lot of that is basically tap water, with or without added minerals.

That's a good point, I just made some LC last night with tap, from well source. Otherwise I have always stuck to RO or Distilled for the purity. If you're conducting science experiments then I would specifically use distilled. Ever try to use tap in chemistry...

Iron bacteria and sulfur bacteria killed every mushroom I tried to grow for 18 months.
The cats, mushrooms and I are on bottled water now.

i used to grow lots of this.

although it is hard to tell if cleaner spawn or switching to bottle water fixed the issue but it certainly abruptly stopped when i switched to bottled water.
now it almost doesnt matter cause ive honed my skillz and i barely if ever mist

I watched a documentary on flouride. Shit like this scares me. So there's a naturally occurring fluoride I think. It's beneficial to us for the dentist reasons and all that we hear about.
Well the fluoride water treatment plant some put in the water is no longer naturally occurring, it's straight up waste product from aluminum refining plants. I think scientifically it closely resembles fluoride or something there's some bullshit reason they're allowed to call it the same thing.
And it's mass ignorance. It is continued to be advertised as a healthy additive for teeth, yet it's heavy metals, and we cannot pass or remove heavy metals, so every glass of tap water loads our body with the rich man's waste he didnt pay to get rid of. In fact... he's making money off making sick.
it's the same fear as eating fish nowadays. Krill and plankton and all the small fish eat all the small photo degraded pieces of plastic and absorb tbe chemical runoffs and heavy metals. Small fish eat hundreds of those saturated-with-bad-things fish and the big fish we eat, they eat hundreds of those smaller fish. It's amplified.
And what's with the higher chlorine now too? I used to live off tap water now I can't even drink it and have to have filters and shit
If u get water quality reports in the mail like I do, look at rhe chart like I did it gives the ppm of flouride in the water and dbelow it it says aluminum waste no bullshit

I would think they would do ok, you want thinner substrates for pans 1.5-2" I've read vs the 3.5 for cubes. And manure like u saidz I've seen straight hpoo pan monotubs that are gorgeous
same thing but smaller right?
