I will also note that some people have claimed that consolidating grains helps with ape and pe fruit times. I haven't done much with that myself, so I can't really say if its true or not.

If the grains themselves are covered, its colonized. cubensis doesn't need to 'fill in' and if your jars are doing so, its probably in response to a bacterial contamination. 100% colonized jars of clean cubes will look the same on day one as they do on day ten of full colonization. I honestly just went thru this first hand this past month. Tried to grow some APE, but all the cultures got thick as fuck on grains when I tried to consolidate, were difficult to spawn, then turned into green tubs. At the same time, I ran a batch of AA+ jars that I let sit for an extra weeks as well. Those jars didn't change appearance, were easy to break up in the jar, and are already pinning on shoeboxes right now. Lions mane, the gourmet mush, does the 'fill in' thing where the myc kind of crawls over everything first, then gets thicker, but healthy cubes don't do that.

I've never read that, for sure on cakes but I've read to wait on grains before spawning in open air.

Ive never tried it though, I stand corrected

Edit : so on cubensis grain jars you're saying 100% is 100%, If someone spawns to coir in open air with no consolidation time on the spawn, if it contaminates you're pretty sure it came in with the spawn? Zero fear of mycelium having a weak hold on part of the kernel it just arrived at, and a contam spore having a chance to get hold? Because contam spores are guaranteed when spawning a tub in open air, some houses more than others of course

@munchauzen - do you dunk grains after they colonize before you spawn?

I've seen a lot of division on this and mean to try it but keep forgetting. Since I've never done it it feels wrong and weird

I’ve dunked grains from stone producing strains because they’ve sat in the jar for 3+ months

That makes sense steevo, had to be thirsty.

Yeah let us know mush

What I've kinda read in the boards is it doesn't really help unless they were dry to begin with, like a long time in steevos case or maybe grains weren't fully hydrated before. But how do I know if my grains have ever been properly hydrated  maybe optimum hydration for grains in the sub would be too wet in the jar and promote clumping? If that's even partially true then there may be an advantage to always dunking.

Tbh until now I couldn't afford another vector of contamination but now I'm getting better

Sorry for shit pic.

Is this tub just really dry?  My concern is the mycelium almost taking a frosty appearance on the surface coir.  This is my basically an offshoot of my first grow so I have no idea about what different forms healthy mycelium will take on a coir substrate yet.

If I'm still unclear, the mycelium is very stringy and the "strings" are sort of matted in a way.  The surface of my box isn't the most level and there are rogue strangs of coir elevated a bit that are quite dry, this is where the "frosty strings" are most prevelant.

edit:  smells fine and color is pure white.  the more i analyze the situation, the more im thinking its just "rhizo" which i think is a good thing.

3/6 shoe boxes are pinning!!! The excitement is barely containable!!! I want to thank everyone who has given input and advise, could not have been as confident with out y'all!!! Pictures later tonight.

One thing I've noticed is one box was only about a inch deep of sub/spawn and stArted pinning much faster then the others, and I can't remember if it was gt or b+ . I learned today to label the shoebox and not the lids.....smh

i even said how important labeling was in the op:jolly:

nice job with your grows:thumbup: excited to see pics. the smaller substrate should colonize quicker and pin quicker.

Yes I know this now haha. But seriously thanks. I did not use a liner and noticed lots of side pins , some growing sideways of down. Should anything be done Bout this? I put some duct tape on the outside of a few boxes for a experiment. Going to snap pics now

Labelling is super important,
Still though my permanent marker pen wipes off sometimes.
Luckily I'm only dealing with aa+ and Ecuador atm
Also got lots of side pins, going to tape boxes next time might help with my levelling also :P

dont tape boxes. sidepins should be an object lesson for us about the conditions we are providing.(bad)

light doesnt cause them anyway. its moisture held at the substrates surface(even horizontal)its a great climate.
time to read up on surface conditions and balancing the water content of your bulk:thumbup:

Thanks. I haven't misted today and I dubbed them this morning. The action figure is an old autographes " dude love" from wwf and the stones are just decoration. Some say there chakra stones, healing crystals, etc. Personally I just like the way they look haha.
