Levster said: yeah, so I made a few mistakes.. Let's see what happens..
first mistake, Is because the first few shoeboxes were 1qt spawn, they dried out pretty fast, so yes, I cracked it SLIGHTLY. As soon as I heard a KSSHHTT I stopped moving it hahah.. We will see if it recovers.. It didn't fully crack, just ripped the bottom a bit..
second mistake, I dunk it.. for 9 hours.. lol I read that only with a heavy pinset you should dunk for only an hour, otherwise just heavily mist it.. oh well, im gunna fan the shit out of it every couple hours to let it dry quicker.. I don't want contams, I want another sexy flush
I got a bunch of 2qt shoeboxes going now, I'm sure those will be money.
Thanks for all your guys' info, the entire house smells like shrooms now that they are in my excalibur 9 tray dehydrator.. Another problem (minor) As they dry, they start blowing around in there.. Kinda gotta figure out a technique for that
9hrs? at least you know its hydrated. should be ok. the first 'tray' i dunked was for 24hrs like a pf cake.. doh.
4 quart shoeboxes do much better easier to maintain. and more spawn always equals more mush 1st flush.

yes 4 total, but 2 of each. simple 1:1 ratio.
shoeboxes are 6 quarts. 80qt sterlite bins hold 3 6qt sterlites perfectly. so you can make a 'mono' of shoeboxes with 9total quarts of spawn. and 9 quarts of cvg.
thats a decent mono

Yeah man. I didn't bother buying an 80qt mono at this time, I may in the future.. anyways
numbers are in for my 1qt shoeboxes
#1: 201.72g Wet -- 20g dry first flush #2 195.63 Wet -- 19g dry first flush #3 191.81 Wet -- 19g dry first flush
Decent. I got so much stuff on the go.. cakes, agar, jars, and more shoeboxes. This will quickly overstock me haha

These are very powerful.. 1.5g taken before dinner mixed with alcohol a bit, not my favorite combination, but whatever., @ 6pm and it was intense till about 12:30.. an eighth is going to be absolutely bonkers..
the 2qt's I had spawned like 2 days ago, are already surfacing myc through the sub layer.. I think those will yield a fuck ton more.

So I took a spore print.. with a very large cap, I think I may have misted too soon prior to harvesting and, it sat under the cup with 1/4 inch gap to release steam, but the next day I took the cap off, and there was a few medium water drops on the print... so I put the cup back on, and 18 hrs later (now) its all dried.. but the print isn't perfect, those water spots are there... think this is ok, or is it surely going to contam?

It'll be fine.
Even if it is dirty as a wild print, that's what agar is for.

I had a GT "master jar" that I was going to G2G. It was in a green tinted mason jar. I thought I saw a green kernel, so WTF, SHOEBOX!!!!!! When I opened the jar I noticed some bruised kernels from a shake at 100% So I think its clean after all. I dunno but I want to master this shoebox thing. Some extra bucket tek coir/verm. So when harvesting these tubs.. 1) Did you guys find it easier to carefully remove the sub from the bin and lay it on a sanitized counter? or did you just do it right out of the bin..
2)And also, how do you guys like to harvest the fruits off of these? do you simply twist gently? What I did was i cut everything off as close as I could at the base so I didn't tear up a bunch of sub with it, but now my bins awaiting a second flush look all stupid, with a bunch of stumps everywhere haha
3) About how long will the second flush start appearing? Does it sort of have to recolonize, will it take about the same time as the first flush?

i just twist/pull/push over. kinda wiggle em around, they come up easily. you can also cut them.. but meh. or pour in a bunch of water and float the sub and harvest bod style.
you could take it out and harvest but i dont like to over-handle the substrates.
second flush pins in like a week? i never really pay attention cause im watching the next batch of trays.

After spawning to the boxes, is letting them sit in trash bags to colonize an old and outdated methodology? It worked for my first monotub, but I lost the subsequent monotub and have wondered if this was to blame.
I read that having the lid on still allows some air to come in, so is it dumb to think that putting it in a trash bag will speed things up?

the putting the substrates in the dark/wrapping monos in bags to colonize is old stuff.
just spawn, mix, fruit. let nature do its thang.

Cool! Thanks!
I like the idea of doubling up the lids because the last couple flushes have produced fruits larger than my hands and didn't want them to curl up onto themselves. However, my current set up includes 6500K LED rope lights secured around the monotub. These fuckers are bright, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can improve the lighting arrangement.

I wish I had the space.
Right now I have a bed up on platforms and have my tubs underneath the bed (not on carpet).
I was thinking of lining the edge of the bed with the LED rope lights set to a timer. I might even make a few horizontal runs just to make sure.
Eventually spring cleaning will allow a closet to open up.
