I'm preferring that the substrate reach the line on the side of the sterilite boxes, both for 6 and 16qts.
Multispore F+ on a deep 6qt substrate.

LadysKnight said: Munch, you got a lot of fruiting headspace in there, I'm assuming you're using a 1:1 ratio, I use 2:2 and always have to dub. Have you noticed any drawbacks to 1:1? Regardless, will be trying that next. Would be a huge space saver to keep them stacked like that.
I do 1qt at 1:1 as often as I do 2qts at the same ratio. They pin quicker by a day or two at least, but fruits are obviously smaller. Many people do 1:2 as well. 2:2 is 1:1 haha
I'd settle for smaller fruits with the advantage of a smaller tub footprint.
I suppose I wasn't clear about ratios, I was trying to say 1quart:1quart vs 2quarts:2quarts. I've had plenty of success with 2:2. Gonna give 1:1 a try.
Btw, I've found all tubs cased at spawning pin 4 days faster and no sidepins.

I walked in one day and found the dub lid on the floor. The mushrooms threw it off.

I just let them lift the lid, like pillars holding up a roof, they can easily take the weight. Hell I placed my hand on the canopy, flipped tub upside down to get it out and flipped it back over to set down, and didn't harm a single fruit. I have done this "flip to remove" several times.

RomeoPapa said: 8 or so. Depends on how much Verm you use
how come the ratio of spawn to bulk substrate is slightly less with shoe boxes as opposed to monotubs?
this tek has you spawn 2 quarts to 2 quarts where as a mono has you spawn to 5-6 quarts to 8 quarts
Because it doesn't really matter. Not much difference between 1:1 and 1:2 except one will push more yield than the other because it has more grain spawn. Don't feel confined that you have to follow this shit to the absolute T. Toss whatever you have in a shoebox and call it a day. I've done 1 quart spawn & 1 quart sub, 2 quarts spawn & 1 quart sub, 1 quart spawn and 2 quarts sub, and 2 quarts spawn and 2 quarts sub. Shit I've made tons without even measuring the shit, just combining it until it looks good. They all grow mushrooms. Do whatever you have and want to do. Less jars in a shoebox means less eggs in one basket.
Size determines if I dub them or put them in a monotub. APE is so small that you can just grow it with the lid on no problems. Other fruits need more room.

lids were not cracked. yes they still got almost too much. stacking didn't seem to have any effect on the quality of the lid seal at all. had to mist those daily like everything else.

2 boxs Working on 2nd flush.

This one is brf grated and cased at full colonization just starting to pin since yesterday

Group shot

And earlier today I grated 2 pint brf cakes and used that with a qt of rye and made up 2 more shoeboxes with however much half a brick of coco and 1 qt of verm comes out too as spawn, these new boxes are like 3/4 full compared to all these older boxes that are only about 1/4-1/3 full.
