how come the ratio of spawn to bulk substrate is slightly less with shoe boxes as opposed to monotubs?
this tek has you spawn 2 quarts to 2 quarts where as a mono has you spawn to 5-6 quarts to 8 quarts
It might have something to do with diminished returns. I don't really know. I also admit that I never weigh or measure anything out. When I do a shoebox I dump in a myco jar of spawn then ad some handfuls of coir til it looks like enough then mix it up. I think I can make 4 shoeboxes with a brick of coir. Maybe 5. Can't remember

I made 5 off a brick of coir last night with 2 qts of spawn in each shoebox. Hoping I did it right and all goes well. First time with shoeboxes

I think I'm going to put 2 quarts spawn in my next shoebox just to see what's up. I usually only put 2 in my 27 quart mini mono.

Alright shoebox brothers what the hell am I doing wrong.

MS or Clone I am getting consistent 3-4 inch on the first flush. Agar > oats > Coir Verm.
I soak my grains in water+coffee+ gypsum. Coir is made in bucket tek with 4 quarts of boiling water, left to cool, and I add dry verm by hand until FC is perfect. 2quarts spawn : 2 quarts sub ratio. SB's stay with lids for about ten days usually before flipped and misted. Perfect surface conditions maintained until heavy pinset. Open air fruited once 1/4" pins (same results dubbed). Misted throughout day. Temp steady at 75.
Why am I not seeing 5-6 inchers instead? Multiple strains, MS, and clone. All look the same. So what is the answer to bigger fruits? and you can't answer genetics!

Fuck man. I wouldn't be complaining about those boxes. Scale up to a mono tub and see what happens. Your stuff looks on point me.

Maybe try dub tubbing, I presume genetics you cloned from were obviously bigger I hope I'm not staying the obvious. What lights are you using etc.
I don't really know but more info you may get a better answer.
BTW I think they look great perfect pinset

Ive done dubbing too, some still are dub tests with exact same results. 3 6500k bulbs. Clones were from large 5,6,7 inch stipes and caps, MS has been cleaned on agar. B+ in picture is from LC. Same across the board.

That's been on my mind. I need to get a new gauge. Right now the fact that my door doesn't close anymore because its swelled up like mid summer has been my only non-faulty measuring device.
Am I just over shooting for the stars? Maybe everyone's close up pictures has given me the wrong idea on what size should be. Kind of like porn movies and focal lengths?

Totally opposite to your ocd problem pal, I'm just lazy. Next time I make a shoebox up I'll make it straight just for your ocd.
I guess I'm gonna be plagued with side pins etc
OCD?
Nah Willis don't do it on account of me takin a piss

Shit mycolorado, took another look and there's a light green with maybe a tinge of blue like bruise but that might be wishful thinking. Do I got options? Takin it out of main grow area now to watch.
Thanks Mancer! I think i wanna try and take that big one and it's cluster for clone.

I think you'll get a variety of answers in a sec. I'm afraid the whole middle section is gonna bloom green in a sec...Good looking fruit, fosho.

Munch, you got a lot of fruiting headspace in there, I'm assuming you're using a 1:1 ratio, I use 2:2 and always have to dub. Have you noticed any drawbacks to 1:1? Regardless, will be trying that next. Would be a huge space saver to keep them stacked like that.

I do 1qt at 1:1 as often as I do 2qts at the same ratio. They pin quicker by a day or two at least, but fruits are obviously smaller. Many people do 1:2 as well. 2:2 is 1:1 haha

Do you notice smaller fruits in general with a thinner sub?

With cubes for sure. Water content plays a big, if not bigger, role though
