After I spawn to CVG, I place a thin layer of extra CVG on top of the mix. When I notice it's dry (no beads of moisture on it, starting to get lighter in color), I'll give it a heavy spraying until there's beads everywhere. It's not soaked, but lightly damp. I only do this when I'm going to leave the lid off for a solid enough period. The promotion of evaporation from the substrate is beneficial.

This. In my limited experience a mono is way better for keeping the moisture in than a shoebox. After I spawn my shoebox I mist as needed during the entire colonization time. Since its winter I have to run a space heater and humidifier in my basement and its still dry AF in there.

Pretty cool lewp! If I enjoyed the edibles I would love to grow them but I hate the taste lol.

So many different flavors to edible mushrooms, you just havenβt had the right ones prepared the right way. Betcha I could cook some you would think are bomb.com.

I love almost any mushrooms. I think I could live off of chicken of the woods alone... ha ha! Some I'm not to fond of so far are shiitake and wine caps.
Definitely need to try oysers in a shoebox. Have some straw waiting for something like that. Hopefully my outdoor logs will fruit this year and I can try some indoor efforts.

these two should be pinning any day. pe6. 2qts spawn 2qts coco

i think i accidentally made the surface slightly domed on the right
I used 2 Qt spawn and 2 qt Coir and almost always reach the fabricated ridge on the 6 quart sterlite shoebox.
This looks like 1:1 ratio of 1qt max.
Unless this is a different shoebox

Yes, the stems either aren't edible or aren't the preferred portion so you just want the cap as big as possible. Longer stems are indicative of lower FAE, IIRC. But an open air shoebox would have tons so if you kept it at the right humidity you should be fine. I'll probably give it a go soon.

Say fuck it and do it. This is the first shoebox but I've done other small containers:

Yeah and yeah. I did a side by side of two 64oz containers(grain->coir+cardboard). Left the lids on until I got pins in both. Fruited one open air and the other with a gallon zip lock over it:

That's what I did with this shoebox. Leave the lid on until I get pins and then open air fruited. I didn't need to mist until I opened it and then misting a ton. Temps 68-70 and spawn ratio of ~1:4. I work during the day so it would dry out some, you can see the sub has shrunk a bit.

Props to Lewp! I'm just starting my oysters and was thinking of how to pull off the shoebox method with them. Would you mind passing on your sub recipe or link?

The shoebox above is a 1:1 mix of coir and hickory fuel pellets. The 64oz and milk jug were CVG + cardboard. I never tried only CVG, but I bet it would work. There's tons of info out there about oyster substrates and recipes. Seems like it would grow on almost anything.

That's so awesome.. I have a pink oyster lc in my fridge, as well as 10 consolidated brf oyster jars, and have been trying to think of the best way to use either of those.. I'd be interested in shoeboxin' it and seeing what happens...
Here's some AA+ spawned 1:2 to cvg spawned 2/7:
