There is something to be said for deeper substrates, in my opinion.
2 qts spawn : 3.5qts CVG

i think whats to be said about deep sub is its ability to hold water and help build the micro climate within the chamber without the cultivator doing much. i like deep subs as well but usually because i can set and forget it. whereas a thinner sub would need more 'attention'(dialing in or misting)

This was exactly my impression, I figured sub depth was related to keeping proper moisture. I’ll post final yield of these 2 1quart trays but it seems like they each did at least as well as my usual first flush for my 2 quart boxes subs. Probably a pretty minimal second flush though. I’m predicting about 30 g dry per MycoQuart(MQ? Is that abbreviation acceptable?) first flush which is about in line with most of my yields give or take some.

Those are Hefty brand 6qt "shoeboxes". They've been discontinued for a few years now.
Yield on the tub shown was right ~3 oz dry. When I can find my other pictures, I'll add a few more.

Nice.
A few days ago I loaded up a 16qt sterilite bootbox with 3qts APE spawn & laid the substrate around 3.5" thick. Will update when it starts to come in.

If you leave out the top layer at spawning and add it at full colonization instead you will actually get to benefit from the top layer. And also spend a little more time evening out the substrate surface for a better pinset. Looking forward to see results, looking good
Damn I don´t mean to sound so naggy lol I´m just trying to help

Hell no you aint naggy! I put it up for input to. Wanna get my ez mistakes done before my 1st clone jars are ready. So top layer after it colonizes, I thought i had to protect the spawn with it, thanks for the correction. I'll Even out the sub a bit more to. Thanks!

If you spawn grain it might be beneficial to cover the exposed grain during colonization. but is absolutely not necessary with spawned BRF cakes which start to recover lightning fast from a million inoculation points.
