Yeah....was one of those late night decisions when you see lots of pins on the bottom and none on the top so you flip it..then the next morning you notice pins finally coming in on the top

Never seen so many tards and upside down caps before. Named this shoebox the short bus. Probably bacterial but I recently started using a different kind of gypsum. Hmm.

QQ.. on the first page, Munchauzen shows that they just use shoe boxes without any kind of monotub to contain them.
When people do this, how do you get the shoe boxes to fruit?
Is there any difference to the initial post-spawn stage and fruiting? Or is it just a waiting game and you leave it to naturally happen?

Shoeboxes fruit at spawn. The lid is imperfect giving plenty of fresh air to facilitate fruiting.

the sub will start to fruit whenever it is ready. You could flip the lid to increase fae and induce fruiting right after spawning but you will be waiting the same amount of time as if you had waited for it to be fully colonized.

First flush from my MS GWM 1:4 shoebox, using a 12 oz jar of rye spawn. This is minus the 13.5 wet grams I consumed two days ago.

Never got around to posting these as they are from a few months ago, still some of the biggest ive gotten yet out of shoeboxes.

First one was around 90g wet and just over 7g dry.The other was sticking well over the sides of the tub.

Here's a couple pics of the up and coming box... overall, and then a closeup of a cool cluster.

What's the proper method for getting 2nd and 3rd flushes with shoeboxes?
With my first shoebox the first flush was perfect.
I filled the tub with water, harvested my fruit, dumped out the extra water and waited, it's looking like a bacteria infested swamp.
With all the other shoeboxes I've done I've just harvested the first flush and then misted once or twice daily, but my medium does not seem to be wet enough although I get plenty of moisture on my dub tub tops and sides.
Right now I fan and mist them about twice a day. After harvesting I've been removing the dub tub top and going back to the flat top until they start to pin again, Once they are about an inch tall, I go back to the dub tub.
I'm sure their are better techniques and I'm doing something wrong.
Any suggestions?

you got the right idea, I usually dunk after the 2nd flush to replenish the subs moisture content as they tend to start shrinking a lot. Also dont be hesitant to do a little bottom watering as your pin set comes in, not saying put a lot but a little goes a long way to keeping your subs water content up for them big pinsets.

I fill my shoeboxes with water and let the sub float its boat for 1-3 hours. I've forgotten them for longer a few times. Tip the water out. Throw back on shelf with a dub. A few days after that I will include them in my misting routine if they look dry on top.
