That's plenty far away but I would do as best as you can to light them from the front, back or sides rather then through a lid that isn't clear.
lul
ambient light is still light right?

With shoeboxes I just leave the lid latched and they will pin for me. I don't have to "induce fruiting". The lids allow enough air exchange for it. Then after I have my pin set in I pop the lid.

I NEED clear lids! No, not for light, I'm a new grower, but I'm not thaaat dumb. But I love obsessively examining every square millimeter of the substrate as its colonizing. It's my first grow, and first shoebox so hopefully I'll get over the fascination of mycelium growth...so much wasted time examining, then re-examining the grow 30 minutes later.

They need some light, but that's not what matters. They don't use photosynthesis like leafy plants, less than a few seconds is actually enough to initiate fruiting. Whether it's from the top or sides doesn t matter as long as they get it, especially cubes. I've had them fruit in drawers on plates I'd forgotten.
Edit: If you read psilocybe fanaticus court case that he posted online before his death ( may he rest in peace), you will see the testing performed by the DEA's lab. You will see in their controlled test they proved Psilocybe cubensis only needs a few milliseconds of light to initiate fruiting. That's all the light is for, to tell it to fruit. They grew them in darkened cabinets, with controlled burst of light. They also scientifically proved at what stage of growth active indoles are produced. That's why spores are legal in all but 3 states.

Without light you don't.
Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.
You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.
You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

I'm a first time grower, so my knowledge of growing is limited to regurgitating you, RR, Bod, or other T.C's statements (more often than not I'll be incorrect, take quotes out of context, or fuck up, but still learning).
I was just alluding to RR's statement that light is overrated as a pinning trigger. I want clear lids not for fruiting, but just so I can stare at the mycelium all day long during colonization =D

I have pins in 2 of my shoeboxes!!! Malabar & GT.
They came up quick - I briefly popped lid to look & did a very gentle misting, then lid back on.

Question: Do I leave lid on longer until pins fill out or do I flip for more FAE & mist?

no flip. shoeboxes get tons of FAE already. looks dry, thou. mist daily.

Literally mist one a day? And if so, a light misting or a saturation misting?

You could put saran wrap over it instead of the lid and poke some holes in it with a fork. BUT there is the chance of condensation limiting your viewing ability. This would probably happen with clear lids as well.

Any advice for bottom pinning? My shoeboxes were drying out during colonizing but seemed to recover. Now they're pinning all over, top sides and bottom, with some big fruits on top... Mostly tons and tons of pins on the bottom though. Now that they're in a better environment I'm considering picking the top ones and flipping them over to get all those pins on the bottom.

I Got this box of Burmas going... This box is acting weird. I've kept the surface conditions good... got about 10 big ones starting on the top and a bunch of side pins on only on one side... but thats not the weird thing...check this weird bump on top of one of the big ones.

When the ole lady gets up, I'll take a better pic..

I've had those happen in a few grows Also, could be due to high rh but I'm not 100% could just be genetic mutants.
