even with the lid snapped on, fae is happening so you can either leave the lid on. or flip it but flipping requires more attention(surface moisture). i like the hands on approach so i do flipped lids.
note the flipped lids ...3rd tote on the right..

3rd tote got the trich but that ones lid was just snapped on. no misting but ya.. trich
ive had worse flushes from healthier subs
Is that a modded shoebox on the bottom there?

I've flipped the lids on the ones that have been going longer, and I'm home most of the time so I get to mist whenever I don't see a glisten or if the coir looks a little on the dry side.
I'm trying to gauge the weight of the sub for moisture as well. I don't know, it works for plants in soil.
I haven't done any bottom watering or anything, but it seems that there are mixed opinions. I think my newer boxes were made with a better moisture content, but we'll see if there are results to match.
Going to spawn a couple BRF cakes to a shoebox tomorrow, since they're starting to pin a lot in the jar.
Thanks for the help!

My shoeboxes - 7 in all, so far - mostly WBS, a couple with grated BRF cakes. Mostly coir, a couple coir/verm. Some layered, some mixed. All got a light misting before lids went on & lids have not been opened yet. Knots are forming in a couple. These are light spawn to bulk loads - 250ml to 500ml single jar per box - not a huge colony to start. Most have inoculation date and shoeboxing date.

I've got almost a dozen WBS jars inoculated - adding more boxes as needed.

Cheese grate those brfs they recover extremely fast afterwards. I'll most likely be into fruiting 3 days after spawn.

I'm a day late with the pictures I promised, but I'm going to put them here any way. I guess I'm just hoping to gain confidence since this is my first grow. Probably not the only who gets tense during this initial waiting period...
All of these are from great white monster rye spawn, using CVG sub.
First box, about 1:2 ratio, no top layer, spawned 13 January 2018
The one part that got me a bit worried this morning is this, but I think it is just bruising, since it does not show the deep green of trich I've seen in pictures. Agree or disagree?

Second box, about 1:2 ratio, no top layer, spawned 13 January 2018 This looks like it's bruising on the right, but it's just the light through the side of the blue box.

Third box, about 1:4 ratio, CVG top layer, spawned 15 January 2018

Fourth box, about 1:2 ratio, CVG top layer, spawned 20 January 2018

Fifth box, about 1:2 ratio, CVG top layer, spawned 20 January 2018

So, if anyone can instantly see anything I'm doing wrong from the photos, that would be cool. If anyone thinks that they look on track, then that would be even better! HA HA
I have the lids flipped on all of them now, and I end up misting 3-5 times per day, since the furnace in our home kicks on a lot and dries them fairly fast.
I'm getting the impression that the first two will be pinning in the next day or two, and I hope so!
Thanks to the OP, and everyone in this thread for the inspiration and information!

Woohoo! Confidence! Thank you.
If I can put in less effort misting, then all the better. It's a weird combination of conditions right now... Mostly 80-100% humidity outside, but also cold so the furnace turns on a lot.
Thanks for the "go ahead" mushboy!
EDIT... Just spawned box number six with the two B+ cakes I had ready. I ended up with pretty much a 1:1 ratio this time, but with an added top layer. I used shrooms4life's recommendation of the cheese grater, and it seemed to go well! The smell was awesome! Got to pick six tiny pins of the cakes before spawning them, but they only weigh .25g total. Just wasn't prepared to do more agar cloning today, since I did some on I think friday. I did some 2G work today as well, with blenderless LI, PF LC, a pin2grain, and a couple chopped up "tiny cakes." Getting excited!

Yeah dude the recovery rate is insane, mine is already starting to poke through the top tiny casing layer, I'll probably put into fruiting tommorow and hope for pins 2-3 days after that.

The grating sure was fun! I don't eat cheese any more, but this was way better... made me hungry.

Those look awesome!
Interesting that the sub looks mostly like grains, or is there some straw in there?. What was your ratio and stuff? Or did I miss it?

Cased grains quarter inch of coir. First time I tried it. I got a few others going with a 50/50 cow manure compost and coir. A few that are mixed and few that are cased.

Got 4 6qt shoeboxs spawned 1-13 of ms aa>agar 3x> blenderless li>rye>coir verm. Keeping my fingers crossed on these since my mini is moving slower than all hell. Took these pics a day or two ago right before a misting. What you guys think thus far? Its been awhile since I last tried anything.

When preparing for the second flush of my shoeboxes, do I just follow standard substrate dunking procedure? How long should I dunk for?

GT's spawned 2 weeks ago 2:2 MS -> grain -> g2g -> 50/50
I normally spawn into a monotub. However, I wanted to try out shoeboxes this time around.
