Are my shoeboxes doing OK? Basically, I tried leaving them be and not messing with them too much with the lids on during colinization. But it's been rediculously dry where I am for the past few weeks, so when I opened them to check on them they were really dry. The myc on top looked unhappy and drooped over, except the corners which stayed damp and fluffy. I misted them and moved them to a more humid room but they dried out pretty fast again after that, so I just put them in an unmodified tub last night and misted the whole thing. Now the conditions look better but the myc still looks kinda dead. Will it still recover like this?

My latest update to my first two shoe boxes. I think I have let them get to dry so trying to improve my surface conditions at this point. . Spawned 1/12/2018

I can't attest to the myc recovering. I would assume it would, but may take some time given the conditions, but I wouldn't be worried about over misting at this point, as your problem has been on the dry end. If you can't tell if the sub is hydrated on the surface, I know some folks pick up their tubs to judge based on weight.

Put shoebox lids back on, I think. Losing too much moisture. Maybe just flip lids when home.

They seem OK now with the lid upside down on the unmodded tub tbh, I also see some side knots and knots/tiny pins on top now so I think they'll be okay. The surface is nice and damp now. I also stuck a perlite tray in with them. I'll leave it and see what happens.

Once upon a time, a wimpy shoebox was tossed in the 50 degree garage. Enduring long cold nights into the 30's and 40's it cried itself to sleep. Ignored and neglected, it was determined to prove itself as good as the rest. Alas, A single fruit was all it could muster. Witness me, it said... and was promptly picked.

Hope you cloned it, thats some strong genetic will to survive right there, wonder what it could do with the right conditions.

No didn't get a clone. Had just finished two days of making plates, clones, and LC's so I'm pretty sick of culture work right now. That SB had the pin in it already and I suspect that it's just a trait of cubes. You can chuck them in the cold and they'll just slow down. 2nd or third flush fatty that took about two weeks to mature out in the cold.

I thought I'd ask those with more experience. Is fourteen days without pins in a shoebox pretty normal?
Seems to vary a lot in people's reports, as far as the time it takes. I'm just trying to figure out what differences are in play as far as fruiting goes.
I'll try to post some pics of my surfaces later today, since it would probably help figure out where I'm at. I'm getting eager!

My last boxes took 19 days from spawn to pin but it was dirty spawn :/

Very relieved to hear that this time frame is pretty common. Once I started with the increased FAE, misting when dry, and the flouro bulb 12/12, I thought I would have been near a harvest on my first couple of boxes by now.
I will just be patient. Gives me time to do the grain work and get these new agar plates going!
Thanks for setting my mind at ease

even with the lid snapped on, fae is happening so you can either leave the lid on. or flip it but flipping requires more attention(surface moisture). i like the hands on approach so i do flipped lids.
note the flipped lids ...3rd tote on the right..

3rd tote got the trich but that ones lid was just snapped on. no misting but ya.. trich
ive had worse flushes from healthier subs
