I do go a tad heavy on misting - lighter is better.
Lid on until pinset as desired, then increase FAE to fruit by flipping lid & stop the direct misting?
Thanks guys (and gals, I see), I appreciate the help. Too many noob questions, I am sorry about that.

Idk if you are supposed to stop misting during fruiting or Not? I've never seen any reason not to so I do it even up till about to be harvested.

Maybe he meant stop direct misting versus letting it fall?

You can mist harder and more often if your pushing strong FAE. Misting should be a secondary response to lots of FAE.

Okay, I have read through all of this thread. Damn! its overwhelming with all it's info.
I decided to try it out myself, followed the TEK, and I have a few boxes that look like this. This is the part I am not sure about, when do I flip the lids or dubtub? I added a 1/4" top layer when I spawned and my surfaces look like this, should start fruiting conditions? Is there a way to tell when you are at 100% colonization if you added a top layer?

I am not sure if it is the lighting or not, but looks like I see brown coir, indicating dry coir.
For fruiting
Let it go, it will start to knot up just fine with the lid snapped on. I leave mine snapped tight until I have my pin set in. When it is fairly even and they are about 1/8- 1/4 inch tall. Then I just pop the latches. This gives a gap all the way around that allows FAE for fruiting. Mine just grow up and lift the lid now, lol. When I see this, is about the time I "pop" the lid and increase FAE.

I MAY even wait another day or 2. This depends on the development of the small pins. I could mist a bit or just leave snapped shut another day or 2 so the small ones don't dry. This will depend on YOUR environment if it COULD be an issue. Letting them get a slight bit bigger before popping the lid wont hurt. These lids allow decent air exchange even when snapped shut.

Thanks for you reply. you're 100% correct, that coir is brown and drier, almost like it is when you buy it. I wasn't sure if you should let the top layer get like that or not. So, do you suggest misting until its almost field capacity(ish) or the closest you can get to field capacity via misting?

Mist GENTLY, not to much at once. ONLY until it glistens.
HERE is a good guide for surface conditions.

ape shoebox still pushing out fruits

another ape shoebox(older pic)

the larger 'bootbox' had shorties but still put out an impressive yield
2.87oz dry from 3qts 1:1 not bad but meh. shorties are annoying. i did not dunk or rehydrate. i bet the second flush will have larger fuller fruits. ive been making my bulk on the wet side and been seeing miles of shorties..

So my bacterial spawn only ended up giving me 37 grams dried out of 3 shoeboxes, I'm not happy about it but I learned a lot asbout surface conditions and dialing in my gh in the process!
Also I've got a clean clone tissue to agar that's now gone to grains!
My next boxes will look great mark my words

do me a favor. with your next round just leave 1 shoebox lid on, outside the gh and ignore the fuck out of it.(if you havent already) might be surprised which ones performs better with less effort. GH are fun once you get them dialed in but i hate multitasking...
from the op...

Do you use coffee in your pan substrate? I haven't tried it myself but heard it helps.

I've been following this thread for a while now and I was wondering what happened to your Pan grow... I'm on my 2nd run of shoeboxes. I didn't even bother to post pics from the first run. They were all side mushies... Couldn't get the surface right. Well I have this one in a mono tub. This is also the first time i tried putting a layer of coir on top of grains like I did here. Pins in 8 days!!! These are burmas.
