First time doing any sort of bulk, so I don't have a very good idea of what to look for.

They CAN be an indicator of bacteria, but not all is. Some of us have seen a lot of bad tubs, and then got shit right and can now tell the difference. It was not easy for me for a long time.

i still don't have a good idea of the difference between a contamination and bacteria. Not just the visual difference but the difference it makes and the grows and what exactly it is. Are there any good write ups on this? I feel like some of eh other new guys feel the same way.

So these are my shoeboxes spawned on the 1st in the evening then the other 2 the next day (2nd) how do they look?
Also my trays pinset since mushboy wanted to see what happened with it. (It looks ugly cause I dried it out then over misted.) Learned my lesson for next time:)

Bacteria is a contamination as well as mold, it is just that bacteria itself doesn't end the grow, it just weakens the mycelium and opens the door to give mold a foothold. Bacterial grows can produce just fine, or it can be SO bacterial that the culture is weak and doesn't have enough vigor to win the race against mold germinating and growing. Some molds, thricoderma I know for sure, are parasitic on shroom mycelium. It literally gets intertwined with it and it is LITERALLY impossible to separate. This is why trying to cut it out doesn't really work. Now we do encounter other green molds and they may not be parasitic, I just don't know. Trich also has the ability to fragment its own mycelium and those mycelium fragments can float around in the air and infect things as well.

You got some nice clustering going on, some potential clones in there, unless that is a clone.

Well If that's MS and your able to clone, you should snag some clones from the clusters. That's nice!

Looking pretty good. That's just aerial mycelium poking up.

Okay thanks for the affirmation! Is there any cause or reason or aerial mycellium?

I don't think it is a bad thing. I think it is a result of good humidity, the die back if it gets to dry. Possible that a slight bacteria infection could cause it, I don't fully understand it yet, but usually has not been a problem for me.

Well both of your theories make sense to me atm, I have them in a GH with the lids snapped close so I'm sure the rh is really high. But I also used pre-made grains and spawn with ms so It could very well be bacterial also and probably somewhat is.

There is a lot of reading in this thread so please forgive if asked already. Roughly how many oz's can be pulled from a shoe box?

This thread has me all fired up! Can't wait for my jars to finish colonizing as I picked up some 6QTs at Target on sale for $0.74!
