i cloned the one on the left.
which grew this, among others, but the tub had hidden trich. hence the uneven pin set.

but it put out a monster 72+ dry grams from just 2qt oats and 2qts coco. the sub fell apart after i harvested.

1 flush drained its balls putting out the yield

That left one was the one I was really eyeing.
Love those caps' stippled pattern, too. Seeeiickk. Don't think I've ever seen someone place a jar on their flush, hah. For scale or strength, or both?

Mush what do you find the benefit of covering the grains with added coir?

I semi case all mine with a bit of coir/verm mix. Keeps my top grains from drying out. Hard to tell whats going on till it pins but it works well for me. My subs never look fully colonized due to this though.

I always put a thing "top layer" over my sub. I have been playing with a little casing, cause my shoeboxes tend to dry some due to the dry winter air. I have been getting kind of mixed results.

This one dried to 94G (3.35 OZ) 2 QT spawn.

And this one just went into dehydrator. Had to put the in the fridge over night as it was full with the 1st shoebox. I hope this one gives 10% return as well.

I also pay a LOT of attention to them as I am home all the time. I get to play Mr. Mom while my wife works. I mist them, gently a few times a day. I stick to the mist above and let it fall method, until I have growing fruits. Since I have been getting such dense clustering I start spraying the fruits themselves to pump them up, but also make sure they have plenty of FAE. I some times let them wet open air for a few hours, and don't harvest until they are fully mature. I can visually notice the increase in size from the time the veil tears until I harvest, yet people swear they stop growing once the veil breaks.

I can't believe how much this thread has exploded in the last few months. I have just started to switch to a green house type grow with a tent with 8 shelves and it can hold 24 shoeboxes at once. Any one have any advice for doing shoeboxes in a GH?

The picture of the shoebox is from a shoebox I added to the tent a few days ago.

Why bother i can fit way more than 24 in the same amount of space. I would just put shelves there. Rather than something else that requires cleaning and gives you no advantage over shoeboxes outside of a GH

Why bother, so I do not have to do as much work with daily mistings and fanning etc. The fogger takes care of all that work and its more fun and because I want to and thats all that fucking matters.

Oh, I don't do anything of the sort and mine are not in a greenhouse. You'll have to wipe that down and fill your humidifier back up and clean that humidifier every week(humidifiers get disgusting)
Most people have a habit of checking their grows anyway so its not like they're not around to mist which is less time and effort than teeth brushing lol.
Run the GH if you want. Ill be curious to see how they do compared to the set and forget version.

A gh is fine but nothing in this thread will really help you cause the 'shoebox' is a stand alone chamber. Just tossing trays in a gh is a different approach. The tray becomes irrelevant.
Good luck!

Ive seen 14 liter boxes in w GH do worse than 6 quart boxes on a shelf.
Look through the last couple pages of the picture of the day thread. Not exactly easy to get a GH working well. People dial them in on what they think mushrooms want not what they actually want. It can be done but prior experience growing canopies helps.

With the shoeboxes, the GH will get conditions close, and you will use the lids to dial things in. Once you have a heavy pin set in, you can take the lid off and open air fruit in the GH. It will help reduce drying of the sub, but misting will be needed. Crispy does a similar setup as described. There is nothing wrong with this type of setup. If he lives somewhere dry it might work better for him, as it would help slow drying of the sub. I have been having a few issues with shoeboxes trying to dry out on me. Luckily I am home all the time to baby them, where as he may not be.
Think of it like this. Some of us HAVE to use a humidifier in our grow rooms simply because our climate is so dry. He is instead using a GH to keep RH up instead of putting a humidifier in a room. He is just using a smaller "room" than what some of us do. Don't think of it as a real GH. It is just a room to keep RH up some so shit doesn't dry to fast.

I used to use casings all the time. Now I have reached a point where they may not be needed, and are possibly hindering me some times. I kind of want to run a small GH. I would use shoeboxes and keep lids on until I have my pin set in. Then take lid off and open air fruit in the GH. Then again I may just roll with a bunch of ~64QT mono tubs and use shoeboxes for MS grows and clone testing.

neither
just a thin, thin top layer to keep things moist. even then.. id wager you only need it with the dicks.
exposed grains ape
pinned first but thats really the only shroom. might clone em'
exposed grains being a vector? dirty grains ANYWHERE being a vector??
i used a slightly thicker top layer than normal for this ape shoebox.
gettin better! but i think this shoebox has trich should get a flush then bam. the spawn was dirtier. the way the coir is 'colonized' looks like old potting soil
