Way to go shroom!
I like doing open air as much as I can now. I feel when done right at the start of pinning, it increases the number of pins. There would be more evaporation which is a huge pinning trigger. Then you can also mist harder due to the open air, so there plenty of water to support all those extra pins you scored. I think a steady supply of water frequently, from the start of pining, tells the culture it has the water supply to carry more pins through to the end, this gets you less aborts. This is just how I think of it any ways.

I couldn't wait on my first shoe boxes. As soon as I saw aggressive myc coming up through the coir on day 5 I cracked them open and dubbed them. I have other shoe boxes going where I'm waiting until pinning or day ten. I've heard allot of things against fanning, but every time I took the dub off to mist I fanned them at the same time. I felt like I had to smack the myc with air to tell it, it was time. Silly, I know, but thats what I did. Mist, fan for 15-30 seconds. Peek at them 500 times a day and maintaining that perfect glistening surface. I feel like I've been trying to hard to make them perfect but the knotting was explosive as a result. Beginners luck? I'm overly excited about it.

LOL, that's how I did my last 4 shoeboxes. I have kind of been doing the same with current shoeboxes. In fact I have 5 sitting open down stairs right now, lol. This last round I let them set in the open air for a good 6+ hours before harvest, there was noticeable height change in that short amount of time. I have been getting about 1-2 inches of growth between the time the veil starts tearing and when they start to drop spores, which is when they harvest.

Thanks for sharing that. I swear I'm seeing faster growth now but thought it was possibly in my head. I was worried about the pins being too brown in the stem, assuming that this color change was from to much water. I also noticed myc spikes forming at the base of them and assumed this was the start to fuzzy feet I see posted here often. So I started leaving the dubs off yesterday morning and dubbing at night (to much time with me sleeping to check on them 500 times). The only thing that worries me now is the steady increase in the sub pulling from the sides due to open airing. I think its the fruits demand on needing moisture from the sub but I'm still worried about fucking it all up.

Then you can bottom water it slightly. Give it a couple hours to drink and pour off anything it didn't absorb. Your going to get some shrinkage no matter what, but you don't want to much otherwise your shooms are getting shorted on the water.

Roger that. They're getting about half a shot glass on the two that have pulled away. Any tips on pouring excess without dumping the babies on the floor?

Its really great to see how shroomy's first grow was so good looking. It really says something about this site that even peoples first grows would give the more growers of yesteryear a run for their money. Good on you shroomy for following tek. You're not gonna forget your first homegrown trip.

Thanks man! For sure following steps is the key. I took liberties here and there but it was all based off of what I was seeing other successful cultivators doing or another tek that had a good idea that went well with Mushboy's or Bod's. Agar, Bucket tek, easy AF oats/ RR rye berries, shoebox. Easy and rewarding! Thanks to you guys

My first grow was an embarrassment. You newer guys have all the tools to grow like masters. Its all here for you.
Just keep an honest path here and research who you take wisdom from.

Really glad I found your thread early on. Now my only problem is dealing with a dozen mushboy shoeboxes right behind these original 4. I really thought I would have some failure along the way. You guys are going to get a few laughs in the coming weeks when I have to unstack all these buggers! I'll keep sharing progress pics for science

Finally some activity in my tubs to post. Uncased tub is beginning to pin nicely. I think I may be over misting a bit I had it open air for six hours today and noticed it drying up so I lightly re misted, but the water doesn’t really bead anymore. Is this a problem? Another box is about to pin I think. Lots of knots and a bit of primordia too.

i suck at surface conditions >.<
Because of that I usually try to hold off messing with it unless it looks like it wants me to.
The one on the left I would probably flip the lid and leave it be for a day.
Mushboy has the answers >.<

This is my inspiration Enkidu. If my boxes turn out anything like this I would be so stoked.

Coir, Verm, Gypsum.
Harvested these yesterday and came to a little over a dry qp. about 4 and a 1/4. Was a little less than I thought it would be ! But definitely happy.
7 qt spawn total.

I accidently reyhydrated these sub completely underwater for about 8 hours or so. Anyone ever hydrate that long? I'll see what happens...
Mushboy, care to chime in on my surface conditions? I have a few more tubs that are ready to go into fruiting and am trying to get my surface hydration down. I think I may be over misting as the water isnt really beading, more laying down

lol. Come back sober and help the man out !
Those were clones that I literally did nothing to lol.
Let fully colonize, flip lid after full pinset, dub after growth, I think I literally misted one time once the mush were big because i was like wtf... they prolly could use a little bit of water at this point...
Kept the room at about 70 degrees

ok i collected myself for a moment. they look ok. the 3rd one leave alone for a but. let the other 2 do what they do but take notes.
its hard to coach surface conditions over the intranets its just something you get used too. like grilling/smoking i guess.
