Mushroom cultivation: The Chernobyl Diaries.
lol
I'm switching today to try 2:2 instead of 1:1.5, see how they yield differently.
I am seriously thinking about making a thread for this and calling it
"Mushroom cultivation: The Chernobyl Diaries."
That way we as a whole might be able to figure out what causes this. The name you gave it was just to damn good!

I know that here in southeast MN, our tap water has been really bad for a lot of years. We always drink water from a five stage countertop filter. The thing is rated for a year at usual rates, but we need to change it about every 3-4 months since it starts to taste really foul again.
My wife gets quite a bit of free bottled water from work, and I will probably be using that for my mushroom projects when possible. Though I doubt if most brands of bottled are as good as our filter, since many have admitted that they sell tap water.
I would not be at all surprised that contaminants in the water supplies are contributing to mutant mushrooms, most especially agricultural chemicals and PCB's.

Got a couple pokers in the fire. Spawned these 2 tubs yesterday.
LGT 1:2 c/v/g and PESA 1:2 c/v/g (2qt spwn:4qt sub). Myc is colonizing grate after only 1 day. These tubs are more LGT,and are knotting up nicely. Been in fruiting for 1 day also. Just threw a tub on them while I had a few extra this time. I just picked up 6 more of the 16qt. "Mega-Shoeboxes". My thinking is going a bit bigger and spawning to 1:2-1:3 (6-8qts total per box) will give me more water, leadng to maybe a bigger flush? Or at the least, a less dry substrate, which ='s less misting.

maybe invest in a five gallon water jug so you can refil it? That’s what we do. It sits on a ceramic jug thing on a wood stand and has a spout on the bottom. We got luck and got it for free, but I think they have them at Walmart for cheap.

I'm spawning to one of these today! One jar took off, and I'm not going to bother with the other 5. That jar has the best genetics, so I'll clone the first fruit. This will be my culture.
Has anyone ever weighed out coir for these? I'd rather break it up with a screwdriver than use a whole brick. I know coir can sit like that, but I don't have that much space for sub storage.

I don't weight it, I just spawn 7 qt to 1 brick.
I think generally people will use roughly 1/4 brick for 2qt.
You could probably use 1/4 brick for 1qt

I could, but it would throw the TEK off. I know I just have to cook coir and find field capacity, but I want to be exact.

not really. its all about ratios. 1 brick gets 1gallon or 4quarts. do some basic math and you are good to go.
like use a 4th of the brick and 1qt water for a small batch. or bucket tek the whole brick, use what you need and sterilize the rest for storage.

I'll do the whole brick and PC the rest. Thanks guys. I just read about sterilizing coir.

Looks like my trich cultivation efforts have failed again by this damn fungi

Is it too late to case or should I throw some substrate on it still?

Too late, unless you want to carefully sprinkle coir over just an 1/8 in to retain some moisture. Look nii88ce!

Spawned a few of these. Two were just introduced to fruiting conditions yesterday at day 7. 1 quart of grain spawned to coir/verm. The other one is 5 PF cakes crumbled and spawned to CV also. PF cake spawn was prepared only yesterday.

So I just cased my atl7 shoeboxes and I was wondering how much should I mist knowing the stones retain water and should I leave the lid on Til I see pinning? I can open air just don't know when I'm allowed to
