Shoebox is the gateway drug to proper monos or megashoeboxes as MB calls them

i called 20qt sterlites mega shoeboxes. i really like them for open air fruiting. maybe the higher walls play a role? dont know. dont care.
bulk is insane easily. i dont know why the attitude towards growing has so many self-inflected speed bumps. its like the collective human ego trying to prevent us all from reaching certain planes of thinking/self realizations.

Well I've got 5 colonized shoeboxes I've had in fruiting for about a week now. Decided to try easing up on the misting as discussed some pages back, and appears to not be working out so well.
Getting quite a lot of surface bruising and dry myc on surface, and ridiculous amounts of side/bottom pins. There's so much side pinning that I took two of the shoebox subs out of the tubs (same way as would take out to harvest) and placed them into a SGFC with lid off, so they are just chillin' in there like giant cakes. Going to dial up the misting again and see if those side pins will grow out. Was even considering flipping the sub over since there's a good amount of bottom pinning also. There's a lot of knotting on top, but also worried all the dried myc on top will interfere with full on pinning/fruiting.

pics?
wait.. lids off? if you are doing open air style approach never ease up on misting. not unless you have a good pinset coming in. then id bottom water if needed.

All these pics are from just now before getting misted. Each pic is a different box.

And then I saw these two pins side by side in a sgfc just grain cased with verm looks like two different mushrooms. One green head one red. Pretty neat looking.

Im not seeing any pins on the sides there mostly in the center of the tubs not center but not on the edges either. Should I continue to mist like I have been?

Well under better inspection im seeing a shit load of pins on the side but under the substrate kinda smushed against the clear sides. I guess its from condensation running down the walls of the tub.

So of my 4 oldest shoe box's the one that got bruised the most from drying out had zero pins on the top. I get home today and decide to look at the bottom.
The bottom of this tub has more pins than the other three have on there surface. Should I flip this one and put it in the sgfc? Or just flip it over in its shoe box? The fucking things loaded.

My first shoebox grow has been all sorts of f'ed up. Lost 2/6 due to bacterial infection i thought was while rhizomorphic growth... until the two that looked like that never did anything.
The 4 surviving ones ended up drying out due to my own neglect, i was trying to keep the conditions right not that i purposely neglected them but yeah same boat as you. 3/4 of them have fruited on the sides and i mean like 2 produced 170g one did 100g and the P.E. did 80 (wet values) I never really had to work on moisture as prior to this, about 10 years ago, i did cakes and put them in an overly moist FC.
I cant tell you about bottom pins as the only one that did that was P.E. "blobs" which werent bad are hard to pick. After they flushed i "dunked" them for 3 hours and am hoping to get one more flush from them but they dont look "healthy"
I would consider flipping it if you can do so without damaging it just because the "blobs" i had didnt want to grow into mushrooms anyone and became little stones that lifted the substrate up.
God I suck at moisture, doing the SGFC next time for sure.

That sucks bro. It's only my one box. My other ones are posted a few post up from this one, there doing ok. Its just this one box that dried out a bit more in the beginning.
The other 3 plus 8 more are doing pretty good. Post some pics of yours on here like I am. Finding the right moisture content is key. I think I'm getting it now but at first I wasn't giving enough water. Now I'm trying to make sure I don't over water.
I put a glove on and threw mine in a sgfc. Hopefully those bottom pins start growing. It should be a descent amount.

That's a lot of bottom pinning, sir_spins_alot and those pins look pretty good. I would personally flip it if nothing is about to take off on your surface. The surface may still be about to explode depending on how much it dried out and whatnot.
I've now taken all my shoeboxes out of the tubs and have placed them side by side into SGFCs with lid off, misting regularly. They are pretty easy to take out, just kinda bend the sides so they come loose from the tub, put your hand in the center top of the sub and turn over so it slides out onto your hand, then carefully place into sgfc.
Whether or not this will end up working out very well, who knows, but I'm interested to see... maybe it will end up being a new preferred way to fruit these shoeboxes for me Although I'm wondering if this will result in the sub drying out too quickly or something. Since they are placed side by side, I figure its similar to a mono

I did in the "getting started" page, posted a few of them there and thats when i was told it "doesnt look very healthy" they are all bruised and odd looking. If they flush again I'll post more pictures as you requested it but for what its worth im happy with it... all told at this point its like 480g wet for 4 boxes of first flush f up.
It would just be odd to take a picture of my just picked mangled looking probably shows signs of dehydration substrate without being able to be like "well at least it flushed twice"

here's some pe6 shoeboxes. some were cased some were not. Next time will be better. I'll be putting the grocery bags over them right away which I think will make them perform way better than they had with the lid on until the pins were touching the lid.

Yep that's what I did. It came right out I didn't even need to mess with it. Put on a glove and flipped it, slipped right out. Its in a fruiting chamber like yours, but i don't have multiple ones in there so who knows how it will turn out, hopefully good. I'll keep updating as the days go on.
