Might as well the sub was made and pasteurization waits for no man. I throw out that lc that knock it up with. I don't expect good yields but does not hurt to try.

much better pic from tump. but yah stinky spawn is going in the garbage
however i have spawned jars that had a more vinegar like after flavor to the mushroom smell and they did fine. but usually ive noticed that with grains that were slightly too wet.

I mean if it wasn't shroomy smelling just vinegar you should just re-pc and reinoculate that spawn.
Throw your sub in the fridge and let it sot until spawns ready then repastuerize

The last two pics are the purple mystics I spawned on the 11th. First pics are the tub spawned on the 7th. Been having dry issues due to my furnace but trying to keep up with misting.

those look really dry. my substrate doesnt start to shrink until the first flush is almost halfway in. yours are pulling away from the totes walls
1st flush? id dunk those after you pick the shrooms. just submerge in water in the box and let it soak up some water. 20min? depends whatever hydrates them.
ive noticed my shoeboxes can get dry quick during these cold winter months. global warming means its been 60f outside so my heater is off and some windows open in the house and i havent had to mist my trays at all today. i was misting 2 times a day..minimum with the heater on.

decent knot action on the PM trays. whats with the chuck or whatever in the bottom corner?

That was the corner closest to the vent so it dried out pretty quickly. Ill up the misting for sure. Yeah winter does suck with the dry conditions it causes indoors.

take advantage of the drier conditions. it means your trays can evaporate quicker right?
rewind!!! a huge pinning trigger is evaporation off the surface of a substrate. it contributes to the nice microclimate
keep your substrates moist 24/7. dialing in would be closing up your tray to retain that evaporating moisture with the loss of fae. i hate this but if you are not home, not much else you can do.
thats why i like the flexibility of putting the shoeboxes inside monos. when i get back home i can pop open the mono and evaporate some of that retained moisture for a couple hours(not fanning!)

A thick casing layer will help tonnes if you can't keep up with misting. By the look of yoyr sub it looks like yoyre letting it dry out completely then re hydrating. Try a half to 3/4 inch casing at spawn.
Also I fruited my APE shoebox yesterday. I think my casing was too thick because I still don't see any myc popping through. I wouldn't go thicker than 3/4 inch again. I underestimated the small size of my shoebox.

I was curious as to how yours was coming along. Did you case when you put it into fruiting? I cased mine on Tuesday with around 3/4" of jiff/verm and dropped into a mini.

thats why i like adding the 1/3-1/2 inch 'top layer' to damn near everything i make.
ive never had a substrate shrink like chakas did. and i can guarantee my shoeboxes are exposed to way drier conditions. i basically use a combo of bods unmodified tubs and crons open air fruiting.
top layers are super important imo. id rather use that then a traditional casing with cubes. it will be interesting to see how the pans cyans perform since it will be the first time ive used a casing in a long, long fucking time.

The one with fruits didn't get a top layer. The other 3 did. Those are knotting up pretty good. Yeah I work all day so I can usually mist them in the evening. This was my first time trying bulk, I was gonna just fruit the cakes but hadn't built a sgfc so I thought is give this a try. Next up will be a mini mono, either AA+ or use up the rest of my AV syringe. I know MS isn't recommended, but as soon as I get me a PC, bye bye BRF.

ms to cakes is not a huge deal. for some fancy reason. ms to straight grains will cause you issues.
