Hello,
A friend of mine has been a junky for a number of years, on heroin. He's tried to kick it so many times but he can't do it, he's not strong enough. Recently he's been really worried because his mind is acting weird. He keeps having dreams and then confusing them with reality. He thinks he's had conversations with people and done things that haven't happened, and his short term memory is corrupt. Is this the beginning of the end?

People who do drugs on a regular basis, or do a lot, most often develop disassociation and / or paranoia. I'm not educated enough to know if, after not using drugs for a long period of time, those feelings will go away. But I do know, the longer he prolongs it, the worse it will get.
I wish him the best.

your friend needs to get professional help right away.
He thinks he's had conversations with people and done things that haven't happened, and his short term memory is corrupt.
He needs help before he hurts himself or someone else. This is very serious and you need to act now.

I too am realizing, personally, how addicting opiates are. I'm not addicted, and I haven't done them in a month or so (not heroin, just other opiates), but I still crave them. I don't suffer any withdrawl (physically), but fuck, I know how hard it would be once I did. Good luck.
