Panaeolus Cyanescens pinning, abort?? Dark green/black pins... Can I mist the casing?
    #24036696 - 01/24/17 05:33 PM (7 years, 6 days ago)

Hello! This is my first grow and I've already asked some questions some days ago :$, now it's about my panaeolus goliath
The pins looks weird, the pins first are very clear, the second day they grow a little and they turn very dark green now, and the caps are opening... What I am doing wrong? FAE? HR? Help me please :frown:

Substrate (depth: 2"): sterilized horse manure/verm/straw (1/2 kilogram straw, 4 liters of dried dung, 3 liters of vermiculite and 3 liters of water).
casing (sterilized): 8 units of peat moss/3 units of verm/1 unit of lime flour

T°: 77°f
HR: 90% (I did reduce the HR today:now it's 80-90%)
FAE: I open the lids for 30sec 5 time a day, and I wave a little the inside of the fruiting chambers with a sheet of paper... I did it more today, maybe 7 time.
Light: neon tube 4000k 18w 12/12h (1 for each fruiting chambers)

I have never pulverized the casing in both chambers, only the perlite in SGFC and no misting at all in the mono

(Mono) Before the HR was 90%, Since today I let a hole without polyfill on top of the mono for more FAE, now the HR is 80-85%
Casing: 15dec, Fruiting chamber: 18dec, Pinning: 22dec

(Mono) The pins from yesterday, very bright for the little ones...

(Mono) Same pin: yesterday/today pictures... they look very dark, it doesn't seem to be better with time. The casing is also a bit dry? Should I mist a little the casing?

(Mono) Picture from today, some pins are growing a little, but the shrooms are very small and the flush is very small :/

(SGFC) HR: 85-90%, Casing: 15dec, Fruiting chamber: 18dec, Pinning: 22dec. A lot of tiny tiny pins are visible, but why they dont flush too? Too low HR? But there is also small shrooms. ... Pictures from today, the pins seem darker in this fruiting chamber. The casing also look more dry than mono. Should I mist the casing?

Thank you for your help shroomery! :nyan:

This morning all the mushrooms was biggers and the color brighter.
I don't know if it was about the FAE, HR or even normal...

But the flush still ridiculous, any ideas about it?

Can I mist? It didn't seem to have a distinct flush, how should I mist the casing?

Looking pretty dry. Unfortunately I never had any luck misting pans. Need to basically harvest when they finish and mist it well at that point. Maybe dial in the poly a bit tighter.

Is it old (or misguided) practice to dunk pan subs after first flush? Just by filling with water and draining. Or am I far out if my element thinking of something else? It sounds right but I know it's not.  ...right?

Personally I don't dunk any bulk sub unless it lost a fair amount of water over the first flush. But I'm not really much of a pan guy either.

Thank you, I'm waiting with you ^^

The shrooms are getting biggers, but it still a very ridiculous flush and also very small ones, enven for pans... caps: coin of 1 euro
They are in sporulation now
So I'm going back to HR 90-95%, for a better pin set. Maybe I did go too fast with HR decrease and that's why the flush is so small?

I'm still opening the lids and wave with it the FC 5-7 time per day.
And the casing is almost dry in some areas
The poly is tight on the bottom and loose on the top, there's also a top side without 1 poly

I have misted a side of casing on a tray to see what happens...
I also mist the outside walls of the mono, it increase the HR a lot, I'm at 90% right now. The mushrooms, even the little ones are really bright now since more FAE.

Looks good man. You should harvest those ones that are dropping spores.

Pastywhyte, thanks a lot! But a so tiny flush...

It's hard to pull and twist without damaging all the little mushroom, should I cut them?

And can I inject some water in the substrate? Or just a casing misting?
The pins won't be killed? Or I'll have to wait for new ones?

I have misted an other 3rd tray from 2weeks ago after casing, and there is still no pins on it :/
I've also misted a little part of the tray on top left side on first picture, to see what happen

those are nice.

what grain did you use?**

i got my own pan goliath on agar now. also dropped this wedge into a jar..

anything you would do differently?

good job though.

**just checked out your journal.. you got one hell of a over complicated setup.
and did i see lava rocks or air stones???

the more you detail the more we can help.. but seriously.. nice pans bro. :awethumb:

Thank you mushboy
I was expecting more shrooms ^^, I hope it will be enough for some trips

I've used the rye grain just for spawning the manure/straw in filter bags.
And you talk about the agar? It's too new for me to tell ^^
I plan cloning a pan too, tomorrow

When you say complicated, you talk about the incubators? Because I just use SGFC and mono with polyfill and a light.
Next time I'll try to colonize at room temp.

And the perlite was out of stock some days ago, I didn't had enough of it for the SGFC, so I've mixed perlite with clay beads

On this thread Blue Helix also say to saturate with water all over the casing for a second flush: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8893238/fpart/2/vc/1#8893238

I wait until the end of this flush and I'll do that
Next time I also try the RBS and manure substrate

What a hell of a first grow man! Even though your pans are few, they look nice.

I agree. For your first time it's fantastic. There might be few of them, BUT they look very healthy. Next time give them more water AND more FAE (that would be my guess at least).

ok so I've harvested the little tray and also misted well the casing, the mono will be harvested until today and tomorrow, some mushrooms are also growing in the middle now

I've also cloned some pans, but it's so hard they are so small! I did it with 20G needle.
I try 15g/person of fresh pans tonight with some friends  I'm excited about it :mushroom2:

Thank you very much for the help
I'll post the pictures on my grow log <3

Good job dude :super:

And about dunking i don't think you should, Mr. Fox use to tell me that Pans don't use as much water as cubes do. And he use to just mist the hell out of the casing from far away after the first flush.

I mean like logically if you look how big cubensis mushrooms are and observe Pans, you'll see the huge difference.

I recommend you go through this thread if you haven't already Pan Thread.

Found his quote haha, had to go through the whole thread again, but its good to read it again, my Pan Jam are nearly fully colonised anyways..

Quote:

Fantastic Mr. Fox said:
Yeah, I just heavily mist after each harvest.

Reason being, is because the sub is still fairly hydrated (still heavy)
The only part that needs to be replenished is the surface of the sub/casing layer.

Pans dont require as much water/frequent waterings as cubies..

Edit:  Eatyualive thinks other wise though

thanks a lot for your useful links

I have misted the casing yesterday, a lot, I hope not too much. I think I have to drain the excess!

And I have pan pins on the pasteurized substrate this morning! I hope it will be interesting!
