First Time Using New Pressure Cooker and Myco Bags How Much Water?

I have a 16 quart presto pressure cooker and went through the manual it says no matter what I am canning to add 3 quarts of water. Thats 12 cups does that sound right? Is adding a little more water better. I have three medium sized mycobags that I sealed with packing tape and I was going to lay them in there with the filter up and exposed should I cover the filter with a towel or leave it exposed. I plan to bring it to 15 psi for 90 minutes does everything sound right dont want an explosion.

u want to add as much water as possible.
Ive ran out of water mid-PCing many times, not cool and actually dangerous.
Add as much water as possible IMO.

I use like 3-4 quarts in my presto 23
90m is for jars. For bags I would do no less than 2-3 hours

pretty much. Leave some room, say 3-4 inches or so for the bubbling action of boiling water.
I would add 12 cups of water then see where its at then add more cups untill u are 3-4 inches from the bag filters. Count each extra cup for future reference.

You're gonna want to have a longer run with bags than jars, as bodhisatta says. Also keep the bags apart or do even longer runs.
I had a Presto 23q and the wobble thing was wobbling a lot and I lost a lot of water.
With the AA921 I figured if I kept the wobbling to a small burst every other minute, it still had the right pressure but lost no water.
The AA was for sure better imo but I GUESS it would work out the same with the Presto. Perhaps someone could chime in here and save you a lot of water and unnecessary worrying.
Good luck to you man.

People use pressure cookers wrong you only have to maintain 15psi the weight should barely jiggle. I throw extra weight on my weight. So i can keep it at 15 and it doesn't tick at all period. Barely any water loss over two hours.

you want the weight to wobble right? It says to wait to put the weight on after some steam comes out.

Not unless a bag or something gets caught in the pressure release/relief valve. Even then the weight would shoot off before the whole rig went.

There's really a long line of things that have to happen in the right order with the proper types of failures down the line for one of these to go.

I have the same one and yes you want to wait until the thing pops up. You then put the weight on and that's when the pressure will start building slowly.
In my experience sometimes it doesn't pop up after a long while for whatever reason so I get a knife of something with a thin edge and I nudge it a little and it pops up then I can put the weight on and build the pressure but that is only when it is abnormally long before it pops up.

I read the instructions multiple times I just wanted your guys opinion as well. The only thing I am worried about is how fast the water will evaporate at this psi? will 90 minutes be safe? I am well over 3 quarts of water but I couldnt find any info on this its much more water people would use for jars I think because the bags are so much taller than jars.

i vent for like 5 or 10 min while i clean up the kitchen... but then toss the weight on and wait until it hits desired pressure then turn stove to med heat.
my weight spits or rocks 2 or 3 times per min. anything higher is just a waste.

it doesnt have to rock constantly to be at 15psi. the AA weight has 3 settings. with smaller holes corresponding to higher psi.
the instructions say. the weight should rattle a few times per minute. excessive shaking leads to drying out... or something i cant find my instructions.
when i take a piss i just pee. i dont need to 'force down' at a higher pressure to piss.. if that makes since...

Dude i let my pc throw steam till that toggle thing is up and wait another few minutes that tells ypu no air pockets are in the pc it takes maybe 30 minutes to get to that point then i throw on my weight and turn stove down once at 15 to maintain the 15... also there is a saftey plug on prestos that will blow out after 20 something psi

3 hours for bags. Slowly bring up in pressure and slowly back down. Packing tape to seal?... That'll melt or just come off... Try TIEING the tops.
Run an experiment with just an empty PC and see how long 3 quarts of water lasts.

But I dont have an AA weight My weight rocks before 15psi even and at 15psi it rocks more and throws more steam out its designed to do so. My weight is set at 15. My worry is at that psi steam is coming out as apposed to 10 or 11 where no steam coming out or very little. It seemed to work fine for me this time I will see how they turned out though and how much water is remaning. Three hours seems excessive for medium bags actually these may be small bags should be the same as jars anyways no matter the size shouldn't it?

For presto PCs the weight rocks back and forth at 15 psi. For other brands it varies. I had a Mirro and it wasnt a stead back and forth.
My first run on the Presto I used 3 quarts and it was fine for 90 minutes, a lot of the water was still there. I was using quart jars. My second run I only filled about 1.5 quarts of water and at the end of 90 minutes it was dangerously low. Could have been bad news.
