Buckets and thermal death

I've worked with 5 gallon buckets before and ran into the issues of thermal death. My place was relatively hot.
This summer I plan on growing Pleurotus salmoneostramineus AM-G3-P.
My greenhouse will be kept roughly 85-90F. I don't have room in my garage or shed as it is full of my landlord's stuff for logs incubation. I would either need to incubate in the greenhouse or inside the house itself.
Keeping logs inside the house would fill it up rather fast.. I have been thinking to start contacting local restaurant get their used 3.5 gallon buckets for straw for my greenhouse this summer.
Input would be great!

When I first started out I grew out of 5 gallon buckets. No thermal issues here...just make sure you have holes drilled every 4-6 inches and a few tiny ones on the bottom. Firehouse subs sells them lid and all for like $2, cheapest I could find. I then switched to 27 gallon totes to maximize space. Loved the idea of not wasting plastic, but quickly found I got sick of sanitizing buckets every other day. It is a serious pain. It has pros and cons like any other method. Pros-no wasted plastic, no need for shelving which saves a ton of money, and definitely the cleanest harvest I've ever had, reusable forever.
Cons-Expensive upfront, a pain in the add to clean, and the sub will naturally shrink inside the container leaving room for slugs and other pests to make a home without you even knowing since your view of the sub is obstructed by the plastic.
As for incubation, I kept them in a very loose trash bag so they could retain humidity, but breathe. I would say just throw them in there, but 85-90 is too hot for incubation, even for pinks.

I got a swamp cooler (not really sure how good they are. the one I had when I had an aparment sucked balls, the entire pad would not get wet. So when it was 100 outside my room was 90.) this one I got for free. Plan on using that to cool the greenhouse and got shade tarps all ready.

It is not uncommon for 100F nights.
I am looking at the best place to store them while doing the spawn run would be inside.

It helps to not stack them or put wood strips between each layer if you are stacking. The bottom of a un-spaced stack always gets the brunt of the core temp

Great advice gr0wer, wasn't even thinking about that.
What would you say would be a max greenhouse temp for that after colonized?

Did you ever have problems with mushrooms growing inside the buckets? I used small plastic shoeboxes once and got lots of pins inside due to the microclimate.

There will side pinning on about everything. Some people cut them out other let them break back down.
I get them with my bags with sawdust bags. I have been trying to pack a casing layer tightly around the sides to prevent this. Issue is oxygen getting there causing pinning.
Light is less of a factor. Prevent oxygen from getting to places you don't want than you are good.
I haven't been able to find a lot of info on the thermal death. It would be ideal if I could get it down to about 83F at all times but not a lot of info on the limits.

with buckets im worried about the sub shrinking so much that youll only get 1 good flush on the outside then the rest will be small mushrooms inside the bucket.

I can get two good flushes with buckets. After two it has a tendency to attract contams.

There are benfits and downsides of buckets
Benefits but not limited to
- Can be reused over and over again
- Almost zero cost after buckets are collected.
- Can get for free from restaurants Most restaurants have 3-5 gallon buckets as most of their bulk supplies comes in them. Even pizza hut.
- Maintain their shape and can help protect the substrate during transportation
- Don't need shelving just wood planks.
Negatives but not limited to
- Probe to thermal death
- Requires cleaning after each use
- Can take longer to fully colonize and be ready to fruit after fully colonized.
- If made into shelves can be a pain to remove the ones needed to be removed. Might want to just cut small sections to have totems instead, could pose a danger of falling if stacked too high.
- Hard to inspect for contamination compared to logs or bags.
I might have to see if aloha would be so kind to answer the thermal death question for me when they call me about my culture order.
