Grain spawn?

Is it very perishable, or does it last, indefinitely, in cool and dry conditions?

Fully colonized grains will last a few months in a fridge I believe. If you need to store it you can do it that way. It's best to use it as soon as it's done though so you don't lose any vigor. It's gonna need it to recover when it's broken up into a bulk sub.

Thanks.

I just realized this may be an issue.

I have received edibles in the mail, but the weather has been very inclement -- as in twenty year snows and the rare tornado warning.

I will feed it, as soon as humanly possible.

I never had much luck with saving spawn for more than a few weeks, but it can definitely be done.  Perhaps my conditions were not ideal or I am a drunk idiot.  Either way, it should be fine for a bit.

I am reading mushrooms being described as an underground tree, bearing it's fruit, above the surface.

In that case, are you inoculating your substrate, on top, or from the bottom? Or, does it matter?

Substrates will be practically inoculated everywhere through out it

I've had both cube spawn and oyster spawn last for six months in the fridge.

Pulled out a 6mo old jar from the fridge to expand. Looking good after a 30% shakeing.

I remember the bag of oyster spawn distinctly. I was crumbling it up into a bucket if wood chips and could feel actual heat on my hands as I did it. The myc was waking up after its slumber.

Garden clubs have an experiment, where compost is used to warm a hot water heater.

But, I didn't mushrooms were an energy source, too.

I'm not calling it high tech, but, yes, that's a form of energy.

There are several kinds of literal power plants, which work by heating water.
